Oriana’s loyal followers return year after year to indulge in her refined elegance and sense of heritage and tradition. The adults-only, mid-sized ship was welcomed into the P&O Cruises fleet by Her Majesty the Queen in 1995, before being refreshed in 2012 with a multi-million pound update that retained the classic design of the ship whilst reinvigorating her facilities. Oriana remains a firm favourite with those who prefer a more relaxing and classic cruise experience.
Activities & Recreation
The adults-only nature of Oriana lends an air of sophistication to facilities on board the ship and activities are geared towards relaxation and a steady pace. There are three pools and four whirlpools on board, with the Riviera Pool and Crystal Pool proving the perfect size to swim some lengths before relaxing on one of the surrounding sunbeds.
The Oasis Spa is a secluded haven of relaxation situated on the Lido Deck. All treatment rooms in the Oasis Spa enjoy soothing sea views and there is a varied list of treatments available, many of which use much-loved Elemis products and all of which are performed by friendly therapists.
A full service hair salon is a great spot to refresh your style or brave a complete transformation. Holidays are a time to indulge in a little extra me time and maybe even a treat or two from the Knightsbridge on board shop, where you will find sparkling jewellery, perfume and cosmetics to complete your new look.
Crichton’s Card Room is a popular venue on board, as are the regular bingo games, light-hearted quizzes, art classes and presentations that occur throughout the cruise. A netted sports court is located midships on Sun Deck, presenting an opportunity to get the heart pumping with game of short-tennis, football or cricket. Aft of the sports court, at the stern of the ship, you can pass time a game of Deck Quoits or Shuffleboard.
Explorers on the Promenade Deck is a hub of information where passengers can book excursions and get expert information and advice on what mustn’t be missed in your next port of call.
Dancing and West End inspired productions take centre stage on board Oriana. The Pacific Lounge is the entertainment hub of the ship, with comedy shows and cabaret preceding dancing on the wooden dance floor later in the night. Situated on the Promenade Deck, the area has well-arranged seating which offers excellent views of the entertainment from anywhere in the room.
The 650-seat Theatre Royal adopts the rich red, blue, gold and maroon colour scheme of a traditional theatre setting. The impressive venue is equipped with the latest audio and lighting equipment, along with a revolving stage, and plays host to spectacular West End inspired productions throughout the night.
Oriana embraces the traditional aspects of cruising wholeheartedly, and nowhere is this more apparent than in Harlequin’s; Oriana’s glitzy dance venue. An in-laid, wooden sprung dance floor presents ballroom dancing during the day, before the area becomes smaller and more intimate as the dancing continues in to the night.
If you would rather admire the fancy footwork from afar, head to Chaplin’s Cinema, where twinkle-toed film characters of yesteryear light up the silver screen between Hollywood blockbusters.
Oriana offers a world-class dining experience in beautiful surroundings, with a choice of two main dining rooms, each offering Club Dining and Freedom Dining. Choose Club Dining and you will enjoy the same table at the same time each night. This traditional dining option is a great way to build strong friendships that will last for many cruises to come. Freedom Dining is a more flexible alternative, allowing passengers to eat anytime between 6.30pm and 9pm, at a new table each night.
The Peninsular and Oriental Restaurants each serve quintessentially British menus. Five-courses are served to the highest possible standard and the chocolate buffet in The Peninsular Restaurant provides a popular climax to the most delicious of meals.
Speciality dining on board Oriana is presented courtesy of The Ocean Grill and Sorrento. Led by Marco Pierre White, The Ocean Grill delivers a menu of traditional English cuisine with a contemporary twist, while Sorrento is a lesson in Italian fine dining.
Guests seeking a less formal dining option can head to The Conservatory, a light and airy venue with floor-to-ceiling windows providing stunning sea views. Quality and choice are in abundance at the buffet style restaurant, presenting a relaxed option for anyone looking for an informal meal after a long day at port.
With seven elegant bars and lounges on board there is something for everyone. Tiffany’s Bar is highlighted with Art Deco touches, with the Tiffany glass crown of the atrium providing a focal point and conversation starter amidst the softly-lit ambience.
Lord’s Tavern is a tribute to Lord’s Cricket Ground and the ‘grass’ carpeted sports bar is the best on the seas when it comes to watching live sports in quintessentially British surroundings. High up on the Sun Deck at the forward of the ship, The Crow’s Nest is an eternally popular meeting point on many P&O Cruise’s ships and the perfect place to relax with a drink in hand and shimmering ocean vistas stretching before you as far as the eye can see.
Guests of the Oriana can expect a variety of dress codes throughout their cruise. Evening Casual is predominant throughout, with Formal Nights taking place two nights per week and requiring black tie for gentlemen and evening wear for the ladies.

In keeping with the décor and overall atmosphere of this cruise ship, dining in the main dining rooms adheres to traditional cruise ship etiquette with Club Dining. This means that in the Peninsula and Oriental restaurants, guests will be seated at the same table each evening, which is great for getting to know the other cruisers. There is also fine dining at the Ocean Grill restaurant created by Marco Pierre White.
For guests who would like some less formal dining options, there are plenty to choose from on the Oriana. The Conservatory is a 24 hour self-serve buffet serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Terrace Grill offers fast-food items and there's an Al Fresco pizzeria on board too.
