Hop On A Bike

No matter where you go in Amsterdam you can’t go far without hearing the chime of bicycle bell or see two wheels heading your way. With over 800,000 bikes in Amsterdam, there are more bikes than people thanks to the unbeatable network of cycle routes and flat landscapes.

Head For Arty Jordaan

The old district of Jordaan boasts fabulous boutique stores and a brilliant array of bustling bars with a vibrant atmosphere. Wander through the narrow streets and quaint buildings that are dotted with galleries, antique shops, bars and restaurants and soak up all that Jordaan has to offer.

See Culture in Museumplein

Home to Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art, Museumplein is an art lover’s utopia where activity pulses each and every day. Open-air exhibitions and bustling markets are commonplace here. Vincent Van Gogh’s Museum in particular is a fantastic place to visit where the flow of the venue follows the life of the artist over each floor. You’ll begin with his initial sketches before revelling in the marvel of his complete works and spectacular masterpieces.  For art lovers in Amsterdam, this is just the beginning.  The Stedelijk Museum is also definitely worth a visit and houses some of the world’s most incredible pieces.  Major works by Cézanne, Monet, Matisse and Picasso are all exhibited here for visitors to enjoy.

Bloemenmarkt

Tulips are as clichéd as clogs in Amsterdam, and a stroll along the beautiful canal of Bloemenmarkt is definitely worth a visit. As the only floating flower market in the world, Bloemenmarkt is a magnificent sight, alight with colour and fragrance from the flower laden boats.

Take A Canal Tour

One of the best-selling options by far with all cruise lines has to be the chance to take in the city by canal.  It is actually a fact that Amsterdam has more canals and bridges than Venice making this tranquil way of transport a great way to see the city.  The waterside scenery is superb and there’s always the chance to stop off at a charming café or restaurant to unwind and enjoy the view.  Most tours use a glass topped boat allowing for panoramic views whilst protecting against the possibility of unfavourable weather.  One of the first attractions to the eye will undoubtedly be the architecture here.  The Dutch trader’s houses glisten in style where contemporary meets traditional and the house boats give the city a timeless effect for an unforgettable image. Anne Frank’s house is visible from the waterways and stops will often be made for further exploration.

Or Opt For A Coach Tour

Should you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground then perhaps opt for a coach tour.  This option often begins at Dam Square, a central point of the city and famous landmark.  Be sure to enjoy the fascinating Royal Palace along your travels and do not forget about the late Gothic church of Nieuwe Kerk to capture the home of royal inaugurations.  The range of sightseeing is fantastic but one of the most iconic symbols of Holland is the traditional windmill and guests will have the chance to enjoy a photograph opportunity of this charming symbol of the past.  The traditional windmills are few and far between in modern times, often replaced by updated technology but the ones that still remain standing still exude the charisma of this charming destination.

This port of call continues to rise in fame within the cruising world and it’s  not hard to see why with Amsterdam’s stepped gable-house, colourful flower market bustling city and love for bicycles.
