Love Boat & Jack Benny

6 posts in this topic

The 1970s TV programme "The Love Boat" showed exotic locations that were not easily accessible at that time, and is generally credited with giving the cruise industry a significant boost,

The much earlier politically incorrect Jack Benny sketch probably set the industry back a decade,

Funny you should mention the 'Love Boat' Wheels.

In a moment of boredom last November i watched it on Amazon Prime.

Worth a punt if just for a laugh.

Hi  Most of the Love Boat series were filmed on Princess Cruise Line ships and subsequently one of these was transferred to P&O and was renamed P&O's Victoria,  I have fond memories of cruising on this ship and so I can say that I have sailed on a Love Boat.

I must remember to tell my wife that we also sailed on a Love Boat.

Love Jack Benny. Nothing unPc about that sketch, just the fantasies of an older man.

RayO

It was a "tongue in cheek" reference to Jack using an overweight woman in the sketch, that probably would not have got past the PC censors in later years.

There is another good sketch where Foster Brooks plays the "drunken accountant" when roasting Jack, and his career took a PC dive well before his death in 2001 as comedy portraying drunks was deemed unacceptable.
