Excursions

Interesting letter in this weekends travel supplement, with the writer saying that they have stopped taking excursions because they have got earlier and an 8.30 start was too early.

We had a 0900 excursion booked in Costa Rica, moved earlier to 0700 - not very happy. After the excursion we were very glad. It was so hot and humid by the time we returned to the ship, needed to be near the swimming pool for the rest of the day.

Not really sure of the point you or the letter writer are making though. Some excursions leave early some don't, a lunch included excursion left at 1030 on the same cruise. If the ship leaves the port mid-afternoon then excursions will generally have to be earlier.

For the shorter excursions that we do there is usually an early start and a later start.

One issue is that cruise lines charge too much foe excursions. You start early to save food costs (no breakfast) and come back so late you miss dinner. If you are lucky you might find the best meal you get is whilst on a trip.

We prefer to go in the morning because of the heat and have had some early starts - especially in Egypt and Israel when we got up at stupid o'clock!
