Braemar 02/09/15

5 posts in this topic

Hi, just wondered if any one has any suggestions for this cruise, visiting the following ports

Aviles
La Coruna
Portimao
Lisbon
Vigo

Particularly Aviles and Portimao, have been to the others but always looking for something new and different to do.
On the last cruise there was a lot of 'Tuk Tuk' tours that looked fun, does anyone have any experience doing these?

We got home from a cruise on Braemar yesterday & our last port of call was Aviles. We did a walking tour called "sweet & salty" which lasted 4 hours. We walked for 1& 1/2 hours including a tour of the indoor food market & then stopped for refreshments. A further 1 hr stroll saw us at a cider cellar with tapas type food & lots of cider! It was a very interesting walk which didn't go very far from the ship which docks close to the town centre (no hoho buses). It is easy to wander around on your own but we did a guided tour as we like to learn about the places we visit. Our young guide was very good but a message on our interactive TV did warn beforehand that it was a newish port & that the guides may not have very good English. The guide was amazed that we had a sunny day as apparently it is known to be a very rainy area. Incidentally, the Braemar is a wonderful ship & the crew are friendliest we have ever encountered.

Furby you might get more replies if you repost under ports of call. I asked about Le Havre under Fred Olsen & got 0 replies. Reported under ports a few days later & got 14! It seems not many folk read about poor old Fred.

£36 each which was not too bad considering we got coffee, cake & a sort of brioche at the cafe & then lots of food including dessert & (in my case) 7 tries of the cider ( about 1in each time) in the cider cellar. It was a fairly easy walk & the young guide was full of information.
