Interestingly I spotted the Louis Crystal in slightly different livery last September while i was in Istanbul...

It just goes to show how handy it is to keep your camera handy.

 

Compare my photograph with that in the Daily Mail - spot the damage.

Whatever went wrong, an additional question would be whether the enhanced manoeuvrability of the more modern ship would have avoided the collision.

It certainly appears that the cruise ship ploughed bow first into the tanker...
