Holiday Brochures

5 posts in this topic

Went to our Thomson TA to book a hotel break in a hotel that we had seen in the flesh (brick?) & on-line . After we had done the deed for next March we asked her which brochure it was in so that we could take one home. She replied that it wasnt in a brochure as it was a very popular hotel with many returning guests & as the hotels have to pay to be in the brochures this particular one didn't bother. Am I the only one who thought that the travel companies put the hotels in their brochures to sell their holidays & didn't realise that the hotels had to pay for the privilege

Hi 2Torts.

I knew because I have had first hand experience as a retired hotel owner.

It comes under 'marketing' and can eat into one's costs tremendously.

Add to that the fact that the TA then earns a commission from all bookings, as high as 22% in some cases, and your into a hot ball game.

One reason why the internet is now proving a boon. Particularly when the hotels have the ability to show more photographs and information...

I'm excited.

Thanks for that SR. That seems very high - it's a wonder some of the cheaper hotels manage to keep going! Going slightly off the topic I priced up the holiday on the internet & then went to the TA to book it and they agreed to match it & then added a £25 web match service fee to the invoice!
