Athletes' village or Silver Cloud?

11 posts in this topic

I have just been reading an article on the Daily Mail website and apparently the USA men's basketball team have refused to stay in the Athletes' village, and instead they have chartered the Silversea Silver Cloud!

I know which one i would prefer biggrin.png

Lucky enough that they have the money to pay for a charted boat, it does kind of lose the spirit of the games when 1 team may have the edge over others, even if its only a comfy nights sleep with no bugs & a decent meal before competing

I agree cruise chef it does lose the spirit of the games. I can't blame them based on the images I've seen of the village but it seems a shame that something so synonymous with the Olympics is so poor. I'm sure the Athletes would prefer the atmosphere and unique experience of the village if the standards were better but you can hardly blame the USA basketball team for seizing the opportunity of a Silversea ship. It looks just a tad comfier than the village tongue.png

Our Olympics basketball team consists of spoiled NBA pro players! I liked the Olympics better when all the athletes were considered amateurs.

Oh well! I think it's a bit over the top and I'd really love to know who is paying the charter fees, plus how long the Charter has actually been in place? Given the Silverseas clientele, they wont have taken kindly to any last minute cancellations and/or any longer voyage disruptions.

I'm certainly hoping that respect will be likewise met with respect. Aka: I certainly hope they don't trash her at the end of the games, in the same way that a certain faction of a certain national team, trashed the beautiful little  'Deutschland' at an onboard 'party' after the London 2012 Olympics.

Above all else lets hope and pray for a safe and trouble free 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Certainly agree with your last comment HALaP&O. Wouldn't it be good to go for a fortnight or even a week without hearing of some atrocity somewhere in this world of ours.
