Queen Mary 2 Competition 19th November 2016

With all lines clear, 'Aurora' set free,

Her voyage begun upon azure sea.

Sparkling smooth Southampton Water,

beckons our adventure to Northern quarter.

Waved on our way from shore and sea craft,

by friends known and unknown, gazing fore and aft.

Meanwhile from the Bridge, Our Pilot, The Captain, Officers too,

guide us safely forward, Isle of Wight in view.

Now dinner calls, such sumptuous fare,

appetite honed by fine sea air.

So many choices, never disappointed,

with each plate and every glass perfectly anointed.

Next on the menu Crows Nest or Curzon Show,

or perhaps on deck for sunset's gilded glow.

Past Dover and Calais shores, embracing,

guardian 'gulls watching, swooping, chasing.

Sleep sweet dreams overtake,

while onward 'Aurora' glides, aqua gold in Her wake.

Through invisible channels our course is plotted,

upon distant horizons misty platforms dotted.

North Utsira onward to Bergen lead,

close through Hjeltefjorden at stedfast speed.

Then the views we came to see, through fjords carved serene,

glimpsing mountain cabin retreats, where few footsteps have ever been.

Summer snow in high crags cradled pure,

except where, unobserved, trolls lurk, dark and dour.

Torquoise, vivid greens, and violet blue

magical colours compliment the ever changing view.

Great British Sailaways with patriotic singing,

our new passage set, westward winging.

Memories to treasure, many friends made too,

time arrives to say goodbye, bid fond farewells, adieu.

Dreaming, dancing, homeward sailing,

the next cruise destination, surely in the mailing.

High praise and thanks for the Ship's Company and Crew,

now we are returned, rejuvenated, happy, all brand new.
