With Miami native Pitbull announced as Godfather and the launch date getting ever closer, excitement around Norwegian Escape has reached fever pitch. As we prepare to head to Southampton next week for a first look at the latest ship to bring family cruising to the seas, we decided to share our top eight reasons to get excited about NCL Escape.
The Aqua Park
Four multi-storey waterslides, two pools and four hot tubs make up the Aqua Park. Challenge a partner to a tandem waterslide on the Aqua Racer or brave Free Fall, the fastest waterslide at sea. Everyone can get in on the action at the Family Waterslide and there’s even a sized-down version for water babies at the Kid’s Aqua Park, where they can go wild with water cannons and water buckets.
The Mini Golf
You’re never too old to appreciate a game of mini golf, whether you’re travelling with the family or not. Pick up your club and head to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed 9-hole golf course. Perfect your swing in advance but don’t worry, you won’t be expected to retrieve your ball from the water this time around!
The Flying Feeling
We’ve got a feeling that the Ropes Course is going to be even more popular with the grown-ups than it is with the kids! Norwegian Escape will be home to the biggest NCL Ropes Course ever and you’ll find three Sky Ropes courses, five Sky Rails and two Planks in total. Unfamiliar with the concept of The Plank? Let us explain! You’ll walk one of two ‘planks’, each of which are suspended 8ft over the edge of the ship. Don’t look down! There’s even a kiddie friendly Ropes Course, so Mum and Dad aren’t the only ones having all the fun.
The Adult Hideaway
One place the grown-ups will have all the fun is at Spice H2O, an Ibizan beach club inspired haven of relaxation during the day and partying beneath the stars at night. Huge screens set the scene to get the party going, whilst the hot tubs and grotto area are the perfect spots to sleep off a woozy head come morning.
Norwegian Escape isn’t just home to two Tony Award-winning musicals, there’s plenty more on offer besides. Throw your requests the musicians’ way in Howl at the Moon and he’ll keep your favourites coming all night, listen to live music with a beer at The District Brewhouse or enjoy rock and roll from the 1980’s with the all-singing, all-dancing, all-dining ‘For The Record: The Brat Pack’ in the Supper Club. Norwegian Escape can certainly hold a tune!
You’ll need your key card to gain exclusive access to the hidden enclave that is The Haven. Taking NCL’s ‘ship within a ship’ feature a step further, guests staying The Haven will receive the most luxurious cruising experience the cruise line has to offer. Staterooms and suites are exquisitely decorated with the plushest of furnishings, ocean views and expansive verandas. Guests of The Haven will also have exclusive access to a private sundeck, cocktails and nibbles in the chic Haven Lounge and private dining with a unique menu at The Haven Restaurant.
If there’s one thing you can be sure of on board Norwegian Escape, it’s that your glass need never be empty. Whether you prefer your cocktail shaken or stirred, you’ll find your perfect mix in one of the many bars on board. Our favourite, if just for name alone, is the aptly named 5 O’Clock Somewhere bar. Elsewhere, you’ll find the ultra-modern Mixx Bar, Mojito’s galore (funnily enough) at the Mojito Bar and speciality cocktails at District Brewhouse and Tobacco Road.
The Alfresco Experience
The Waterfront is a first for cruising. Wrapping a quarter-mile around the deck, this open-air space is filled with al fresco versions of NCL’s signature eateries, cocktail bars and even a gelato parlour, so you can dine, drink and appreciate the sea views, all at once.
