On 22 August, Bolsover Cruise Club took on the challenge that has been sweeping the globe, and in particular, social media – The Ice Bucket Challenge. Five members of staff volunteered to take part in the challenge to raise money for people across the country affected by cancer. Sales Administration Manager Wendy Flegg, Sales Team Leader Sharon Tucker, Sales Consultants Adam Blake and Kirsty Thompson, and Graphic Designer Jamie Snarski all took part in the challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
We nominated Account Managers from five of the biggest cruise operators to also undertake the challenge, the people we have nominated are; Tracy Francis from P&O Cruises, Rachel Poultney from Princess Cruises, David Hearn from Royal Caribbean International, Mike Graham from Celebrity Cruises and Vicky Courtman from Holland America Line Seabourn – we encourage you to support this amazing non-profit organisation by donating via text – please text ICE to 70550 to donate £3 and help fight cancer…
Macmillan are the nurses that help patients through treatment, they are the volunteers who give a hand in everyday needs, the fundraisers who make it all possible and the community supporting cancer sufferers in person and online whenever needed. Donations make up approximately 98% of Macmillan Cancer Supports income, meaning it would not be possible to provide these phenomenal services without the support of communities nationwide. Below you can read all about our #IceBucketChallenge, how we did, who we nominated and the money we raised. Everyone at Bolsover Cruise Club urges you to donate to this cause.
What is the #IceBucketChallenge?
The #IceBucketChallenge is an activity that involves dumping a bucket of ice water on a person’s head and donating to a cause. The original cause that sparked the world over social media craze was the ALS Association in the United States but since reaching the UK, many people have chosen to support numerous charities with their involvement. Bolsover Cruise Club chose Macmillan Cancer Support.
The challenge flows by participants nominating others to take on the challenge right before doing so themselves in order to spread the word and raise money. Once the water is poured over the persons head, the people they have nominated to take on the challenge then have 24 hours to accept the challenge themselves or forfeit by way of a greater financial donation.
Want To Get Involved?
All you need is a bucket, ice, a smartphone or camera to record with, a towel, a change of clothes (highly recommended by our participants), and bravery (lots of it!). Once you have all that in place, fill the bucket with iced water, pour it over your head or ask a so called friend to do it for you (watch them smile), film this on your camera/smartphone and then post the video to social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. Be sure to nominate your chosen people for the challenge as well. You can donate to Macmillan and support the cause by texting ICE to 70550, which will donate £3 by way of text messaging.
The total amount raised by Bolsover Cruise Club was £202.60 to be donated to Macmillan.
