The idea of a fly cruise for many can seem somewhat of a daunting prospect. Many passengers prefer sailing from the UK due to the hassle free ease and simplicity of arriving at the cruise terminal and stepping straight on board to begin your holiday. We agree it is pretty special and we do love cruising from the UK but sometimes you might wonder what it would be like to head straight out to the sunshine or maybe go a bit further afield and take in a new destination, perhaps the Caribbean for example for some winter sun. If this is the case and you’re contemplating heading on holiday for a fly cruise but aren’t sure whether it’s for you, then let us try and put your mind at ease.
We’ll start with the questions that many clients of ours ask when thinking about fly cruising. Where can I fly from? What about luggage? Will I be looked after the same as sailing from Southampton? All viable questions that many people ask yet all have very good answers. Let’s begin with luggage. Luggage allowances do vary but with most fly cruise itineraries it usually hovers between 20-23 kilos per person for flights to the Caribbean and beyond, more than enough for those dinner suits and lavish evening dresses for formal evenings on board. Well we say more than enough but we can almost hear the sigh of uncertainty coming from you but be reassured, it is more than enough, we’ve been there and done it. If you’re travelling aboard a scheduled flight you will be required to collect your luggage at the end of the flight prior to boarding your cruise ship. The process of luggage and the dedicated allowance for the flight will be confirmed to you both verbally and in writing in plenty of time for the flight so do not worry for a second about that. If you are concerned then maybe a charter flight service would be ideal for you. This option means that from the moment you check in at you UK departure airport you will not see your luggage again until you arrive in your stateroom on board the ship; that’s right it’s delivered all the way through for you, hassle free and no messing around with those pesky carousels after you’ve landed.
So what about airport choice from the UK? Well it’s simple. For scheduled services for example with airlines such as Virgin Atlantic or British Airways then the majority of the time you are going to be looking at London airports but if you prefer a more local option then again take a look at cruise lines that offer charter services. P&O Cruises are one fine example of a brilliant cruise line that offer opportunities to fly from local airports straight out to destinations such as the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Services at present include airports such as Manchester, Birmingham, Doncaster and many more. Bolsover Cruise Club has even laid on our own charter flight service just for our customers to fly from East Midlands airport in 2014. This option cannot be found anywhere else as we make sure we cater to our clients as much as possible. The popularity of flying from local airports continues to rise and we intend to make sure this service is available for our clients to fly straight out to the Caribbean just as we have in recent years from Doncaster’s Robin Hood Airport.
Not only are fly cruises fantastic for getting straight out to the sunshine but they are also ideal for anyone with limited time to getaway. Perhaps you are confined to time due to work or just prefer to be away for a shorter period of time. A fly cruise allows you to see more in a short space of time with less sea days and more days in port. It is also ideal for world cruises. Passengers wishing to take in new parts of the world but not able to commit to a full world cruise now have the chance of doing a world cruise sector for shorter durations but still taking in some fascinating ports of call.
To sum up, Southampton is outstanding and to be honest there really is no simpler way of heading on holiday than just arriving and stepping straight on board as your holiday starts straight away. Southampton and other UK ports such as Harwich and Dover are excellent but if you’re looking like we said to try something new or head further afield then it’s important to know that it doesn’t have to be stressful or a mad rush, it can be just as relaxed and easy to enjoy. From local airports the options are great and the chance to enjoy some winter sun for the Caribbean or fly straight out to the Mediterranean wonders is highly appealing. Take a look and see what you think with many of our great offers for 2013 and 2014.[contact-form-7 id=”6130″ title=”Contact form – Holiday confessions”]
