Royal Caribbean International has announced the details of a brand new dining concept set to be unveiled on board the cruise lines latest ship additions. Quantum Class vessels Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas will both boast what Royal Caribbean are calling “the next era of dining.” Known as Dynamic Dining, the new concept is considered by many to be the next stage in evolution for the cruising world, pioneering a new method of dining options for passengers and creating an outstanding level of flexibility and freedom for guests to enjoy. We’ve seen wonderfully diversity from the likes of Norwegian Cruise Line who revolve their guest experience around “Freestyle Cruising”, the chance to really relax and the complete freedom of choice when it comes to dining. It’s clear that Royal Caribbean have been pondering this concept for some time and are now ready to unleash Dynamic Dining on the next level of cruise ship innovation.
What is Dynamic Dining?
This is a whole new take on the dining experience for Royal Caribbean. We’ve seen the cruise line introduce many exciting speciality venues and of course the ever popular option of My Time Dining in the past but never have they took freedom of choice to this extent before. Dynamic Dining will offer Royal Caribbean passengers a whole new world of culinary explorations. The concept revolves entirely around flexibility and the ability to cater for any mood on any occasion. For starters, there will be no set dinner times on board Quantum of the Seas or Anthem of the Seas. Both ships will have no set dinner times and no required formal nights. Instead, Royal Caribbean invite passengers to let their mood and their appetites dictate and decide what they fancy each and every evening. To do this they needed a vast array of dining choice and they’ve certainly achieved this. Both ships will boast 18 different dining venues, each serving up a spectacular choice of tantalizing possibilities.
The 18 different dining options will include five complimentary, full service main restaurants as well as three new restaurants constructed and operated under the guidance of three award winning chefs. Choices will range from upscale glamour to casual and even the option to experience something in the middle of the two. Royal Caribbean have coined the introduction: “Let the epicurean journey to Destination WOW begin”, we for one certainly cannot wait!
You are about to have the chance to entirely shape your culinary journey yourselves, completely in the hands of you with no dictation, no obligations, just utter flexibility and freedom, now that sounds like a holiday!
Which celebrity chefs are on board?
As recently announced in our news feed, Jamie Oliver will take to the seas for the very first time has he agrees to creating Jamie’s Italian on board. The rustic, homemade favourites restaurants have become incredibly popular across the UK and now the famous chef will bring his talents to the Royal Caribbean fleet. Michael’s Genuine Pub is home to the next famous face. James Beard Award-winner Michael Schwartz will take the helm of this excellent dining venue serving up an array of superb dishes not forgetting his own craft brew. Finally, last but by no means least is the Solarium Bistro. Here you will discover ‘Devinly Decadence’, a menu crafted by best-selling author Devin Alexander, offering deceptively healthful homestyle dishes.
What restaurants will be complimentary?
There will be a fantastic range of complimentary dining options on board both ships, it really is sensational from Royal Caribbean and although we often compliment them on their innovation and ability to wow, we don’t always give the same praise for their dining offerings, now is the time to put an end to this. The new Quantum Class vessels are set to take the cruising world by storm.
We’ll start with the American Icon Grill. This restaurant is completely free of charge and will offer a collection of American road trip inspired dishes from east coast to west coast, north to south; the American Icon Grill has it covered, and alongside its excellent menu, the decor and ambiance is certain to please. Next up is Chic, a wonderfully developed dining room that is at the very peak of contemporary cuisine. Here you will experience the freshest of ingredients used to inspire and create a delectable culinary masterclass to more than satisfy the modern day cruise passenger’s palate. Silk is a beautifully crafted dining room from the sneak peak images we’ve seen so far and perfectly complements the pan-Asian cuisine. Here you’ll have the opportunity to sample a vibrant tapestry of sumptuous flavours as diverse as the Far East itself.
Coastal Kitchen is another of the complimentary restaurants on board but this venue has been created exclusively for passengers travelling in suite accommodation. This venue is set to perfectly combine Mediterranean influences with California’s farmland inspirations to produce a divine fusion of pure freshness and glamorous cuisine. Next up is Sorrento’s, a Royal Caribbean classic and signature restaurant throughout the fleet. No Royal Caribbean ship would be the same without this gorgeous dining venue and the Quantum Class ships do not fail to do it justice. If you’re looking for an authentic New York pizzeria on the seas then this is the restaurant for you. The open oven kitchen is a unique attraction that is sure to excite the palate of the whole family.
For casual dining venues, the choices are excellent. Complimentary additions on board Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas include SeaPlex Dog House, the first ever food truck at sea concept, where passengers can grab a gourmet hot dog whilst enjoying the amazing SeaPlex area on board. Café Promenade is perfect for a light snack, pastries and sandwiches no matter whether its day or night and a brand new Royal Caribbean venue The Café @ Two70° is also great for a brilliant range of choice, not forgetting your choice of view. The Windjammer buffet restaurant has always been a popular venue on board Royal Caribbean ships and is an ever present attraction throughout the
fleet. For Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas however, the cruise line has reimagined the venue into the Windjammer Marketplace. The new dining attraction will feature a culinary pavilion inviting passengers to discover the four corners of the globe, dish by dish.
Last but by no means is least on the list of complimentary dining venues is the stunningly designed Grande Restaurant. This beautifully crafted venue is being designed with luxury and opulence in mind. Royal Caribbean will provide a superbly created homage to a bygone era here. At The Grande Restaurant, dining is not considered a task but more of an honoured ritual, where passengers are invited to dress for the occasion and enjoy an unforgettable evening. Dishes include Beef Wellington, Chicken a l’Orange, Roasted Scallops and Sole Almondine to name a few, along with many of the world’s favourite classic dishes coming together in pure luxury at the Quantum class’ most elegant restaurant.
What restaurants will be at a charge?
Along with the aforementioned complimentary options, there will also be a further seven dining venues we could resist telling you about. These dining attractions are excellent and although they do carry a charge, they certainly look to be worth every penny. We’ll start with Wonderland, a title you’d often associate with a children’s fantasy story book or maybe even a theme park. Royal Caribbean has taken this concept into the realm of cuisine. The Wonderland restaurant welcomes passengers to experience new and exciting dishes like never before. Here the chefs will create an amazing array of elaborate dishes, twisting their culinary kaleidoscopes to unveil magnificent cuisine you will never forget. Next up is Michael’s Genuine® Pub, a dining venue portraying another first at sea for the cruise line. Here you are invited to the first American gastro pub at sea, a venue designed by award winning chef Michael Schwartz. From one celebrity chef to another, next on the list of dining attractions is the sumptuous addition of Jamie’s Italian, a chicly designed venue where Jamie Oliver will deliver his passion for Italian cuisine for Royal Caribbean passengers to enjoy.
Much like Sorrento’s and the Windjammer dining venues, Chops Grille is another Royal Caribbean favourite and a signature restaurant throughout the fleet. For over a decade this restaurant has provided Royal Caribbean’s passengers with timeless memories of excellent cuisine amongst an elegant ambiance. A hallmark of Royal Caribbean, Chops Grille will once again reign supreme on board the Quantum Class vessels.
Next on the list is Izumi, an Asian inspired dining experience where guests can enjoy tableside cooking preparation through the use of hot rocks. This exotic dining room serves everything from sushi to sashimi. You may prefer something
a little more intimate, if that’s the case then opt for the magnificent Chefs Table experience. Housed in a hidden location within a private enclave of Chops Grille, this exclusive experience is available for up to 16 people. A five course dinner will be served including the option of sample dishes and wine tasting. This experience will no doubt book up early so be sure to plan ahead if it is something you and your party wish to enjoy.
From the elegant and exclusive to something more casual, another classic Royal Caribbean restaurant is Johnny Rockets. Always a hit with the kids, this brilliant restaurant has been putting smiles on faces since 1986 and we have no doubt that on board the Quantum Class ships, it will continue to do so. A casual setting, ideal for a relaxed meal with the family, Johnny Rockets serves up an array of classic American dishes. Waiters and waitresses can often spring a surprise with a dance on the tables at this hallmark venue that always provides a memorable occasion.
