Sports fans will love the breaking news that P&O Cruises and Cunard Line will both soon feature a 24 hour live sports TV channel on board each ship in their fleets. The new channel will be operated by IMG Media and will be aptly titled Sport24.
We all love going on holiday, especially when that holiday is a cruise, but for sports lovers out there it can be incredibly frustrating when it coincides with something you really want to see. For some it can be terribly annoying to book a holiday and then find out it lands right in the middle of Wimbledon or you sail on the day of the FA Cup Final. Well, now you don’t even have to worry about it. Gone are the days aboard P&O and Cunard of searching for reception on your mobile phone or running down to the computer lounge to check the scores, this new feature is sure to put a smile on many passengers’ faces.
This brand new channel will be a first in the world of cruising and is set to be welcomed with open arms by many. We can hear those now though that are not interested in sport thinking “is it going to be on everywhere though?” Well the answer is no, it isn’t, it will only be shown in various bars around the ship and guests will be notified in advance of which sporting events will be shown.
The new channel arrives perfectly in time for the 2013 calendar with major sporting events such as Wimbledon, Lions Rugby Tour, Premier League Football and Formula 1 on the horizon.
The live coverage will all be subject to satellite coverage but this is usually excellent on most cruise ships these days with modern day technology catering for those who need to see which team comes out on top. The new channel introduction is open to debate; for some it is exciting and a great thing where as to others it may not be all that interesting. It certainly shows one thing though; that P&O Cruises and Cunard Line continue to cater for their passengers and respond to feedback well. Both cruise lines are tending to the requirements of their guests and we have to say it certainly seems a clever concept to introduce.
Sadly the introduction of this channel did not come in time for our Marketing Assistant Tim Waring to catch the Manchester premier league derby aboard his recent Caribbean sailing on P&O Cruises Ventura, if it is any consolation though, his team did lose so in this case he was better off staying around the pool.
