Looking for a suite? Our years of experience has given our staff the wonderful opportunities to visit many ships and witness the incredible accommodation on board. We decided to have a discussion and see if we could agree on the best suite choices available from our experiences. It took some time and after a few minor disagreements we got there in the end. Take a look at our guide to suite accommodation as we guide you through what we consider to be the best at sea!
Suites offer a range of benefits including priority embarkation, cocktail party invitations, priority tender access, luxury pamper packs, champagne on arrival and much more.
P&O Adonia Penthouse Suites (right)
We start with the stunningly beautiful suite accommodation on board the P&O Adonia. The smallest ship in the fleet, Adonia is all about intimacy but when it comes to her suite accommodation, she boasts an exceptional wow factor. The Penthouse Suites on board are outstanding and can be located at the aft of the ship on decks A, B and C. There are 6 of these suites in total and each possesses its own unique designs. The main aim of these suites was to evoke old world charm and they certainly succeed. At 930 square feet, the Penthouse Suites on board Adonia are an incredible size including a superb balcony and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors. The separate living room and dining area adds to the beautiful bedroom to create the perfect experience for guests on board. These suites really are excellent and are ideal for guests with discerning tastes.
Next on our list of outstanding suite accommodation comes the Queen Mary 2 and in particular the beautiful Balmoral and Sandringham suites. These grand duplexes provide two storey accommodations with a superbly designed sweeping staircase. You’ll find the bedrooms on the second floor and the suites also come with two marble bathrooms, each equipped with their own whirlpool tubs leaning over an ocean view window with panoramic scenery for the perfect relaxation. These suites are an amazing 2,249 square feet in size and are located at the aft of the ship. The suites come with huge balcony’s that provide what we consider to be one of the best private verandas at sea and when travelling in one of these glamorous suites you also have all the amenities and pleasures of the Queens Grill.
This cruise line takes a different approach. So far we’ve covered the grand charms of Queen Mary 2 and the intimate British tastes of P&O’s Adonia but the freestyle cruising found on board NCL is a very different version of cruising. Norwegian Cruise Line are all about relaxation, having fun and innovative on board features. It is this innovation that shines through in their accommodation and we just could not leave out their incredible suites from our chosen favourites. In particular we are talking about the magnificent Garden Villas. These suites have been around for some time now on board NCL ships but never lose their appeal. With new ships such as the Breakaway and Getaway as well as the Epic, the on board suite accommodation continues to excel.
Garden Villas really are one of the most striking accommodation choices at sea and many consider them to be the best of the best when it comes to innovation, space and design. These masterfully created villas range from 3,355 square feet in size right up to 6,694 depending on the NCL ship you are travelling on. Inside these villas you will find up to three bedrooms, each boasting their own unique features. The private verandas are huge with so much space to relax and there’s even a hot tub included. You’ll find two private steam rooms in each villa and will enjoy captivating views with floor-to-ceiling windows. Through into the mix your own butler and one of the best concierge services at sea and you have the makings of a brilliant cruise.
Continuing with innovation, next on our list has to be the Royal Loft Suites on board Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. The ships themselves are absolutely amazing and as such it’s only fitting that they have accommodation to match. The Royal Loft Suites are situated high up on decks 17 and 18, providing exceptional views out to sea. The indoor suite size stands at 1,599 square feet but it’s the balcony that really takes your breath away. The private verandas of these suites span an impressive 874 square feet and even come with their own whirlpool hot tub and dining area wrapping around the suite’s exterior.
These fantastic suites are set over two floors and have the ability to accommodate up to six guests. The windows steal the show as floor-to-ceiling is taken to the next level in these suites as the windows span over both floors promoting wonderful natural light into the room as well as providing great panoramic views. You’ll discover two bathrooms, both full equipped with all the luxuries one could possibly require and when you see the master bedroom you cannot help fall in love. Many guests worry about the floor-to-ceiling windows disturbing sleep due to potential light sneaking through but fear not as Royal Caribbean have thought of everything on board these ships. You’ll find the bedroom has a glass wall partition and also a fully effective blackout curtain that draws on your electronic demand. If James Bond was going to pick a suite on board a cruise ship, this would be it!
Luxury sister line to Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises offer guests an outstanding suite choice in their own Penthouse Suites. These suites come with a private veranda spanning 398 square feet, which in itself is larger than many staterooms at sea. All balconies in these suites come with their own hot tub. Heading off the balcony and indoors, you’ll find a 1,291 square foot suite. The ones we are particularly focusing on are on board the Solstice Class vessels including Eclipse, Equinox, Reflection, Silhouette and Solstice.
The Penthouse Suites are delectably well designed with all the comforts you could possibly imagine. These suites come equipped with a gorgeous living room area featuring lavish furniture and hardwood floors. You’ll find a 52 inch LCD television in the living room as well as a grand piano. Moving into the next room, you’ll find the dining area, designed to give passengers the pleasure of in suite dining or even the option of entertaining guests for dinner. The separate dining room accommodates up to 8 guests. The master bedrooms continue the glamour with the masterful interior décor Celebrity have produced combining exquisitely with a huge king size bed as the centre feature. Through the door you’ll find a marble bathroom suite with separate whirlpool tub.
These suites really are fabulous and make the perfect choice for a romantic escape. All versions of these suites are sensational but if there had to be one ship that stole the show, it certainly has to be the latest addition to the fleet, Celebrity Reflection. On board this ship, the Reflection Suite is a two bedroom design and provides an even larger living space than her sister ships. A sea-view bathroom is a great place to just relax and watch the world go by but by far the most innovative feature is the all glass shower that actually hangs out over the side of the ship yet still maintaining complete privacy. If you’re even the slightest bit concerned about being seen, which is impossibly by the way, then flick a switch and the glass will completely frost over for the full privacy, a brilliant feature from Celebrity.
Heading back into the world of luxury cruising now and in particular the “upper premium” style of Oceania Cruises. The latest additions to this wonderful fleet include the sumptuous Marina and Riviera. Both of these ships offer a spectacular array of facilities and features for passengers to enjoy, especially when it comes to dining. As you can imagine, the accommodation is pretty special as well and we have chosen these two ships as standout selections when it comes to suite accommodation.
On board each of these ships you will find three Owner’s Suites. These suites really are among the finest accommodations at sea and you will struggle to find better. Each of the Owner’s Suites measure 2,000 square feet and provide incredible comforts. The suites take their inspiration from Ralph Lauren Home and boast magnificent living room areas. The entrance hallway to each of them is enchanting in every way as you make your way into the grand living and dining areas. Each suite even possesses a music room featuring its own grand piano that will play anything your heart desires at the touch of a button. In this room you will also find a state of the art entertainment system. Head out to the private veranda and you’re in for a treat. Here you’ll find up to three whirlpool hot tubs, one of which even boasts a flat screen TV. The real showpiece of these suites however, has to be their location. The suites are set at the aft of the ship and span the entire beam of the overlooking the impressive wake. Privacy is key in these suites and Oceania really have created a masterpiece. Owner’s Suites come with 24 hour butler service as well as an excellent concierge service. You would have to look very hard to find a downside to these exceptional accommodations but I guess if we had to come up with one it would be that these suites are so impressive you may find yourself not wanting to leave!
Let’s continue with luxury lines and take a closer look at the beautiful Grand Suite design on board the Seven Seas Voyager. There are four of these suites in total all boasting exquisite décor and a masterfully devised contemporary feel. The suites are designed to create the aura of an exclusive hideaway, something we feel Regent have achieved extremely well. You’ll find all the regular suite amenities but it’s the standout features that steal the show. A solarium is located just off the bedroom in these suites and the bathroom offers a sea-view facing whirlpool tub. The floor-to-ceiling windows continue the theme of panoramic vista views but this cruise ship does it in a romantic style with subtle elegances throughout.
At 753 square feet, it is not the largest suite we have covered by a long way but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up with in charm. The private veranda is 123 square feet.
Holland America sometimes get overlooked when it comes to luxury cruising but this shouldn’t be the case. This tremendous cruise line boasts a fantastic accommodation in the form of the Penthouse Veranda Suites that are located in the mid-ship areas of the more recent additions to the fleet. These suites feature on board Eurodam, Noordam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam but each possess their own unique personas. The emphasis with these suites is on expansive space and this is more than achieved. Guests will relish the wide open spaces as well as the lavish interiors that portray a contemporary design. Traditional elegance meets modern innovation in these suites and the furnishings combine perfectly with original artwork. You know the feeling of walking into a stateroom and heading for the balcony to see what your view is like. Well, in one of these suites, this experience is even better than you could imagine. Not only is your view magnificent, you also gave the pleasure of your own hot tub and an inset banquette, designed for al fresco dining should you feel like entertaining guests. Another exceptional highlight is the bathroom. The suites offer sublime bathroom designs that are absolutely huge in size with a marble design.
Last but certainly not least on the list, it’s time to take a look at Princess Cruises. We cannot wait to see what the brand new Royal Princess has in store for her passengers and our staff will be on board for the agency preview and naming ceremony, which takes place in June. For now however, we still love the splendour of the Grand Suites on board Sapphire, Diamond and Caribbean Princess. These scintillating designs create a marvellous hideaway for guests to enjoy. In fact, these suites are so special that you will only find one of them on board each ship. They are located at the aft of the ship and provide phenomenal views for passengers out to sea, overlooking the wake of the ship. At 1,329 square, the one bedroom suites combine timeless elegance with a modern approach, a similar mind-set to that of Holland America’s Penthouse Veranda Suites. You’ll find a glamorous dining room for entertaining guests as well as an outside dining area on the huge veranda you have to enjoy. Innovative features include a wet bar as well as a computer room. The usual suite suspects are there in the form of delightful furnishings and high quality bedding, not forgetting the ever present feature of a whirlpool tub, but this time it’s cornered with even more space!
These are just a few of our favourite suites at sea but the future holds a lot for accommodation. Royal Caribbean’s brand new Quantum of the Seas is set to unveil a Royal Loft suite that looks unbelievable and we cannot wait for the arrivals of the new P&O and Princess ships.
