By now you’ll no doubt have poured over every inch of the P&O Cruises 2016/17 programme, perhaps even pre-registering to beat the crowds when itineraries go on sale. We’ve been checking out the new itineraries and P&O’s bigger than ever choice of themed cruises has got us seriously excited for the coming year. As if a holiday of ‘this is the life’ moments wasn’t enough, now you can enjoy even more memorable experiences; all between kicking back on board AND visiting some stunning destinations. If that isn’t the life, we don’t know what is!
It’s taken everything we have to keep our lips sealed about the new P&O themed cruises, but now they’re finally out in the open we thought we would share our favourites. It’s not an easy choice, so we asked some of the staff here at Bolsover Cruise Club to tell us which themed cruise took their fancy for the coming 2016/17 season (and we refused to take “all of them” for an answer!)

“I’m never happier than when I’m nursing a good glass of red, so the Bordeaux Wine Festival really takes my fancy. Bordeaux is the homeland of fine wine and a festival in its honour strikes me as heaven”
Wine lovers like Andy will feel right at home at the ‘Fête le Vin Bordeaux’ – the world’s largest wine festival. Explore the 2km ‘wine route’ between the river and the 18th century buildings of Bordeaux and try a range of wines from over 80 grape growers from the Bordeaux and Aquitaine region. Pair your wine with international dishes, as well as art exhibitions, concerts, fireworks and a sounds and light show every night. Sounds like fine wine heaven, right?

“My cruises with P&O usually take me to the Caribbean, but I would love to experience the sights and sounds of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. New Orleans is the home of jazz and I imagine the atmosphere of the city to be electric at festival time. It’s definitely one to cross off the bucket list and the chance to experience it from a base aboard the elegant Oriana is fantastic”
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is a huge celebration of music and culture; there’s no better time to experience all this vibrant city has to offer. Some of the biggest names in jazz music have played at ‘Jazz Fest’ over the years, and today’s musicians serve up a smorgasbord of music across 12 stages. From the top names in the jazz scene, to names you will recognise from the top of the British charts, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival continues to attract the best in jazz, blues, R&B, rock, pop, funk, Latin, Cajun and much more. With soul food throw in for good measure and the infamous New Orleans nightlife to experience too, it’s guaranteed to be an unforgettable weekend.

“I love anything that gets the adrenaline pumping and if I’m not out on my mountain bike I’m watching Formula 1 or British Touring Cars. The Monaco Grand Prix is legendary and one of the highlights of the Formula 1 racing calendar. Count me in for that one!”
Monaco is a popular destination on any itinerary; add the thrill of the Monaco Grand Prix and it is irresistible! This is one themed cruise that is absolutely sure to be a sell-out. Take your place beside the track that snakes its way through the streets of Monaco, listen to the roar of the engines and watch your favourite drivers battle it out at speeds up to 200mph in a bid to be first to the chequered flag.
Prefer motor racing of years gone by? The Monte Carlo Classic Historic Grand Prix sees cars from the 1930s to the 1980s race on the same infamous track.

“I love food and a good pizza ranks as one of my all-time favourites. Not only is the Naples Pizza Event a celebration of all the doughy goodness of pizza, it’s also part of a cruise aboard P&O Cruises’ newest ship Britannia. After spending a night on the ship as part of the inaugural celebrations, I can’t wait to get back on her!”
Naples is the home of pizza and was the source of the world’s very first introduction to Italy’s favourite export. The annual Naples Pizza Event sees hosts pizza professionals from around the globe, all of them competing for the title of best pizza in the world. Watch expert pizza tossers throw dough sky high, sample endless varieties and learn pizza secrets for the masters themselves.
Cruising is boring, they say. Only old people cruise, they say. What do we say? We don’t. New Orleans jazz festival? Monaco Grand Prix? Flamenco in Seville and pizza showdowns in Naples? We don’t say anything, because the itineraries say it all. This is the life.
