A full review of the P&O Cruises new ship keel laying ceremony

25 June 2013

After a 4.30am start at Gatwick airport this morning I was on my way to Monfalcone shipyard in Trieste, Italy, to witness the keel laying of P&O Cruises new ship for the British cruise market. This new 141,000 ton ship will be launched in Spring 2015. Up to now, little has been revealed about the 3,611 passenger ship, which has been described as a ‘modern classic’ and will include some sophisticated wow’s to be announced at a later date. Having been aboard many new cruise ships as they’re launched, I was excited to learn more about what happens from the drawing board stage to actual design and construction.Well, today I was going to find out… On my journey to Venice I learnt the construction had actually commenced back in October 2012 where the steel cutting had begun. Today, the keel...

Any excuse….We have the answer!

03 June 2013

Deciding to do a cruise holiday for the first time is a big decision but for some it can be bigger than others.  We have heard countless excuses not to take a cruise, from the fear of not being able to spend as much time in places as you’d like to the classic fear of seasickness and even some people believing it is not a genuine way to travel.  Believe us when we say, we have heard them all but when considered in more detail, we can honestly say that most of these reasons are both speculative and unfounded, therefore it’s our job to prove why.  We would even go as far to suggest that for every excuse or reason not to cruise out there, there is a cruise line that could prove the opposite.    We make this statement...

Our guide to the perfect afternoon tea

28 May 2013

Food on board is always a highlight but one of the most popular features has to be the ever popular attraction of afternoon tea.  This delightful experience on board follows on from a British institution and hails from the 1840’s.  It was during this period that Anna, Duchess of Bedford decided that she was unable to wait for dinner at 8pm and as such requested a cake and a cup of tea each afternoon at 4pm.  This then became tradition and set the tone and will forever be a quintessential British favourite.   On board a cruise, afternoon tea is more than just tea and cakes, it is an experience.  White gloved waiters will tend to your every need, when done correctly and will explain the heritage and aristocratic pleasure that has become so popular over the years of cruising. ...
