Royal Caribbean have today announced the first details of the eagerly anticipated Quantum Class ships. The new builds are set to continue the cruise lines trend of “firsts at sea” and innovative creations.
The concept behind the Quantum class appears to be to produce a game changing approach to cruising, raising the bar considerably in innovation and comfort. Royal Caribbean are referring to this project as the next generation of cruising and following today’s fantastic announcements we can certainly see why.
Some of the exciting highlights include such features as a skydiving experience, a large indoor sports complex with bumper cars and roller skating and the most advanced accommodation at sea. We certainly cannot wait for the arrival of these vessels just to see these sensational features come to life but for now we’ll just have to imagine, we can however, take a closer look at the details unveiled.
The accommodation on board is set to showcase the largest and most creative staterooms the cruise line has ever produced. Design, storage and comfort are paramount and this new class of ship seems to tick all boxes incredibly well. In a new industry first, the Quantum Class will boast virtual balconies giving every single stateroom on board Quantum of the Seas a view. This design concept brings virtual balconies to interior staterooms offering real time, expansive views of the ocean and the exciting destinations of each cruise. Kristin Chenoweth, the Godmother to Quantum of the Seas announced the news at an exclusive event in New York City.
Royal Caribbean have wowed the cruising world for years with stunning creations such as the first ever rock climbing wall at sea, ice skating rinks and of course the amazing FlowRider surfing simulator. The cruise line then took it to the next level when designing the Oasis Class vessels by introducing passengers to a Central Park replica through the centre of the ship and even an incredible Aqua Theatre.
“This new generation of ships gave us an opportunity to make another leap in vessel design. Innovation has always been part of our DNA and we have taken advantage of all that creativity to design Quantum cruising,” stated Richard D. Fain, chairman & CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. “The unique features on Quantum of the Seas will boggle our guests’ minds, but the real strength of the design is how our people have integrated all these diverse components to create a comfortable and exciting experience.”
The brand new ships to join the fleet have been created with the idea in mind of marrying innovative concepts with significant architectural elements in order to produce spectacular spaces like never before aboard a cruise ship. With this motivation in mind the line has developed three brand new venues for the Quantum Class ships. Two70 is a revolutionary venue on multiple levels that is certain to be a hit with passengers. The venue is aptly named due to its 270 degree panoramic sea views with floor to ceiling windows spanning two decks. During the day this charming location on board appears to be an excellent place to sit and relax whilst soaking up the captivating scenery and when the evening does arrive the announcement from Royal Caribbean is that Two70 will then unveil an evening persona with a great range of multidimensional shows to immerse the audience. Two70 will feature live performers including aerialists and stunning digital scenery.
The next brand new venue to feature aboard these fantastic ships is the SeaPlex. This venue is a sporting and entertainment haven with new facilities to excite guests of all ages. Passengers can enjoy circus school here with flying trapeze as well as enjoy a range of sporting options including a full sized basketball court. An ultimate first is the bumper car experience designed to bring out your inner child whilst the roller skating area is also certain to provide a good time. Here you will also find a floating DJ booth hovering above the activities taking place below.
The final new venue announcement was the Music Hall. This will be the place to be for live performances and theme night parties. The two story design is said to be inspired by rock and roll and the new venue will boast an edgy design for an immersive thrilling experience.
“We are excited to be introducing major advancements in ship design and offerings on Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas,” said Adam Goldstein, president & CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “The innovative spirit of our brand is alive and well, and with Quantum class, we will deliver more unexpected activities in the most extraordinary spaces. Our guests should prepare to be wowed.”
Guest comfort has always been a focal point for Royal Caribbean especially aboard the latest arrivals to the fleet aboard the Freedom Class and Oasis Class ships. Once again the cruise line has developed something truly special with the accommodation for the new Quantum Class by debuting the most spacious and luxurious staterooms they have ever created. Each stateroom will present smart design features and contemporary, easy to use layouts for what the line describe as “intuitive larger storage solutions.”
Stateroom features include family connected cabins designed to deliver more flexibility than ever before by using three different stateroom categories that are able to connect together to form special layouts. These layouts offer separate bedrooms and bathrooms for all making it the ideal family experience. The idea behind this is to give guests on board the pleasure of having the best of both worlds. Families and friends can travel together and enjoy each other’s company whilst having the ability to separate themselves for alone time when they wish.
Quantum of the Seas will also introduce to passengers, the largest ever variety of stateroom choices that Royal Caribbean has ever offered aboard single ship. New categories include studio staterooms for single travelers, some of which include balconies. Other categories include three new Junior Suite designs and the continued presence aboard new Royal Caribbean ships of the larger and breath taking Loft Suites.
Quantum class will debut in autumn 2014 with Quantum of the Seas, followed by sister-ship Anthem of the Seas in spring 2015. Quantum ships span 18 decks, encompass 167,800 gross registered tons, carry 4,180 guests at double occupancy and feature 2,090 staterooms.
The two new ships certainly offer some exciting attractions but without a doubt our favourites to be announced so far have to be the RipCord IFly skydiving simulator and the North Star an engineering marvel offering guests the opportunity to journey more than 300 feet above the ocean and over the sides of the ship.
