A third of all river cruise ships in service today have been built in the last ten years but AmaMagna is more than just another new arrival.
River cruising is the fastest growing sector in the cruise industry and with so many ships poised to showcase Europe and Asia’s waterways to an ever-increasing audience, it takes something special to stand out in the sea of new arrivals welcomed in recent years. AmaMagna is that ship.
Describing his excitement and anticipation for the 2019 addition to the already exceptional AmaWaterways fleet, Rudi Schreiner, co-owner and president of AmaWaterways said: “I’ve had this unique ship on my mind for many years and am confident that now is the time to introduce my vision.”
More than just another new river cruise ship, AmaMagna is described as ‘a new destination on the Danube’. She’ll deliver the same world-class service, five-star dining and authentic experiences AmaWaterways guests rave about, only – in their own words – ‘now there’s even more to love.’
At almost twice the width of traditional river cruise ships, AmaMagna won’t just be the biggest ship ever launched by AmaWaterways but the largest river ship on the Danube bar none. In fact, she’s so big that the locks of the Rhine-Danube-Main canal can’t accommodate her. Instead of sailing to the Netherlands to have her interiors outfitted, as is the norm, she has instead been transported by container ship and will make a final voyage via cargo ship to the mouth of the Danube to commence her river cruising career in May 2019.
Anyone who values their space will be thrilled to hear that while AmaMagna may be twice the size of traditional river ships, she won’t accommodate twice the guests. There will be just 98 standard staterooms on board, many of which will be some of the largest in river cruising (between 355 and 710 square feet) making them more akin to those on ocean ships. Suite guests will enjoy a number of benefits, including a mobile Wi-Fi device for unlimited Wi-Fi when exploring ashore. A combination of sprawling spaces and intimate pockets will deliver relaxation in spades as the ship sails the storied Danube River, dipping into timeless cities such as Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest.
But size isn’t everything. AmaMagna brings so much more to the table than a few extra feet. There’s more locally-inspired cuisine to whet your appetite than ever, including the new Al Fresco Restaurant and Jimmy’s Wine Bar Restaurant.
AmaWaterways were the first river cruise line to offer complimentary bikes to help guests explore cities independently and they’ll take things a step further on AmaMagna, with the introduction of an open-water sports platform too. Never before seen on a river ship, the platform will offer guests complimentary use of equipment such as zodiac boats and canoes. There’ll also be the chance to join in with further river-bound activities such as Sundowner sailings along the Danube. There’ll be a large Sun Deck swimming pool, plus a dedicated Health & Wellness Studio at the rear of the ship, where professional Wellness Hosts will lead fitness classes and health and wellbeing-related lectures. Optional golf excursions will also be offered on selected sailings as part of a focus on wellness and development set to transform the way we river cruise.
AmaMagna will also bring romance to the river with its exclusive ‘Renewal of Vows’ package.
“Ama originates from ‘Amor’ or love, and we are honoured and overjoyed to celebrate the love stories of our guests on board AmaMagna, our most luxurious ship to-date,” said Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-owner of AmaWaterways.
“Sharing dream travel experiences can be one of the most romantic things to do together as a couple, and on AmaMagna, we look forward to offering some personalised ‘surprise and delight’ moments, creating unforgettable memories for our guests.”
The £351 package will include everything from a symbolic ceremony and couples massage to a Sundowner excursion with champagne on AmaWaterways’ unique private vessel.
“We’ve expanded the options for our guests by incorporating exceptional epicurean adventures, and new wellness offerings. Our guests deserve the very best and we are always thinking about new opportunities that will give them the holiday of a lifetime,” said Schreiner. “Now is the perfect time for us to introduce a new concept of luxurious European river cruising.”
AmaMagna will combine quality and quantity like no other river ship we have seen. And that is why they call her a game changer.
