They’re odd things birthdays. First you get the anticipation, then the excitement when the big day finally arrives and then, well, you just feel a bit…old.
When we realised that 2015 would mark the 10th birthday of the Bolsover Cruise Centre, we decided to mark the occasion in the best way we know how; no not with copious amounts of champagne, but with a facelift! And we aren’t just talking a lick of paint and a couple of new blinds; we’ve enrolled interior design extraordinaire Jamie Hempsall to transform the whole building in a medley of luxe leather, silk lamps, tub chairs and enough destination images to have us all diagnosed with a serious case of wanderlust. You’ve heard of 50 Shades of Grey, right? No, we didn’t think the film was as good as the book either, but that’s by-the-by, because we’re going 50 shades of blue.
Last night saw the gang of four decorators complete the first of twelve 6.30pm to 4.30am shifts, and good god they move quickly. When we decorate at home it takes us longer than 12 hours just to find a paintbrush! This morning we arrived to the strangely pleasant smell of fresh paint and the first shades of blue splashed across more walls than we thought it was physically possible to paint in a single evening. And they aren’t small walls; in all, it will take a whopping 200 litres of paint to makeover the whole office, along with 4,400 carpet tiles (blue, of course).
It’s exciting, this makeover game, so we thought we would let you share our progress here on the blog. It wouldn’t be a makeover without a before and after shot, so here is our ‘before’ (along with a handful of progress shots sneakily taken this morning but keep those under wraps – we don’t want to ruin the big reveal!) Jamie Hempsall will also be keeping a running commentary of our progress, so check them out here
You’ve seen the before, so stay tuned for the ‘during’ – we’ll even try and sneak a shot of the fancy mood board if we can prise it from the grip of our very excited director!
