Pics or it didn’t happen, right? When it comes to holidays, many of us will want to show off our sun-soaked photos to our social media followers. The bar is high though and a traditional Instagram selfie just won’t do when there’s a gorgeous holiday backdrop to capture…
So, what are the most ‘liked’ holiday poses for jet-setters who want to share their adventures (and make their followers a little jealous of their travels)?
Holiday Photo Stalking, ahem, Research
Holidays are our favourite topic of conversation here at Bolsover Cruise Club; That’s why we decided to look at some of the top Instagram posts giving us serious holiday envy and the most popular poses that people used.
We looked at 20 different holiday destinations across the world, featuring some of the most popular tourist attractions, and looked at what kind of photos were posted on Instagram in a 24-hour period. It’s a hard job, but someone’s got to do it!
Here are our findings of the top poses we found on Instagram that you can take away as inspiration for your next trip.
The Top Five Candid Holiday Poses
Perfectly framed, with the Valencia filter to give it that summery glow and the #holidays hashtag (which currently has almost 43,000,000 posts by the way!); these holiday Instagram posts are anything but spur-of-the-moment!
Of course, we appreciate all the prep that’s gone into getting the perfect shot of your travels, and we found that the top five tourist poses were:
Pretending not to look at the camera
A candid shot with a scenic view
Selfie
Walking away from the camera
Kissing your partner
They may not always be the most spontaneous of photos, but it’s the aesthetics that matter and using these poses mean you’ll have beautifully-composed travel pictures to share with your followers.
Popular Places for the ‘Pretending Not to Look’ Photo
Our research revealed that the ‘pretending not to look’ photo was the most popular pose for Insta holiday posts. The top places to do this included New York’s Times Square, the Grand Canal in Venice, the Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong, and at Barcelona’s La Sagrada Família.
Subtler than a selfie and more artistic than smiling straight down the camera lens, it looks as though the ‘pretending not to look’ pose might be taking the selfie’s crown – especially on a city break abroad.
The Best Spot for a Candid Pic
If you want to pose for a ‘candid’ holiday photo, the best place to do so seems to be the Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik, with these photos receiving an impressive average of 113 ‘likes’ on Instagram!
Other spots that are popular for taking a candid shot with a scenic view in the background are at the Burj Khalifa (Dubai), Duomo di Milano (Italy).
All of these instantly-recognisable tourist spots make a beautiful backdrop for an Instagram snap, whether someone’s taking a candid pic of you, you’re pretending not to look at the camera or you’re taking a selfie to show off your holiday style.
The Best of the Rest
The ‘walking away from the camera’ shot featured in the top five for many of our chosen holiday spots, coming first place for those visiting Sydney’s Opera House. Solo selfies and couple selfies were also popular at many of the holiday destinations we looked at – so don’t throw out the selfie stick just yet!
Some more tourist photo poses that didn’t make our top five, but we thought deserved a mention include:
A human silhouette in the Ibiza sun, a typical photo of which received an average of 110 ‘likes’.
Holding up the Tower of Pisa in Italy – it’s a classic!
A couple selfie in the ‘City of Love’, specifically with the stunning Eiffel Tower behind.
Sitting on a sea swing on the island of Gili Trawangan in Bali, a popular tourist spot and a pose that will get you an average of 148 ‘likes’.
Making a heart shape with your hands in front of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.
A picture of a drink or your feet in the white sand at the Bahamas.
A mid-jump photo at the Great Wall of China (warning: this one might take a few attempts!)
What better way to remember your holiday than with these creative photo ideas outside some of the world’s most famous and beautiful tourist attractions. It’s a fun way to personalise your holiday photos so all your friends can follow your travels on social media.
