MS Vesteralen takes her names from the first coastal ship in the fleet and is now proudly carried by this modern day counterpart. Having arrived on the scene in 1983, she is has the privilege of being named after Hurtigruten’s first ever ship, which set sail in 1893. The name is also appropriate as it is the name of the area in which Hurtigruten’s first ever home port, Stokmarknes is situated.
Vesteralen is located just north of Lofoten and is home to some of the most incredibly beautiful scenery imaginable.

Having arrived in 1983, MS Vesteralen is one of the smallest ships in the fleet yet remains one of the most exciting due to the remote destinations she is able to reach. She may be one of the oldest vessels in the fleet but thanks to continuous refurbishments over the years, remains a wonderfully bright and charming ship. On board public areas are a pleasure to be around with the feeling of being amongst friends. The panorama lounge is a signature venue in the Hurtigruten fleet and the MS Vesteralen is no exception offering superb views and a great place to relax. From here you will also pass the extensive collection of artworks on board.
Thanks to her diminutive size, she is only able to carry a small amount of guests giving her a unique, exclusive atmosphere.
