Since founded in 1997 with just four river cruise ships, Viking Cruises has gone on to offer the largest and most award-winning fleet in the world. The recent introduction of Viking Star takes the hugely successful concept behind Viking River Cruises and brings it to the vast oceans of the world in beautiful style. Whether applied to a river cruise ship or an ocean liner, the Viking Cruises concept remains the same; innovative engineering, sleek Scandinavian design and an absolute focus on destination.
Viking River Cruises’ fleet of pioneering vessels open up the world’s waterways for exploration. Joining your ship from convenient regional UK flights, you will set sail along the rivers of Europe, Russia, China or Southeast Asia. See European life from a new perspective along the riverbanks of the Rhine, Danube and Elbe, or experience the cultures of those who make their homes along the Yangtze, Mekong and Irrawaddy rivers.
Your spacious stateroom will become your home-from-home as you set sail on a voyage of discovery. Experience accommodation akin to that of a fine hotel, with European linens, luxury toiletries and a programme-laden in-room entertainment system; watch movies on demand as the sound of the river lulls outside your window or embrace your anticipation for coming destinations on National Geographic.
Scandinavian design influences the open and airy interiors of all Viking Cruises ships; impressive atriums soar above you, panoramic views stream through floor-to-ceiling windows and sun decks put you at one with the scenery that passes you by.
Viking Ocean Cruises is a new journey for the cruise line and one that combines a hugely-successful history with new and exciting innovations. As the first ship in the Viking Oceans fleet, Viking Star is a lesson in sophisticated design. Carrying just 930 passengers, the smaller size of this elegant ship sees her roam to the heart of destinations, granting her privileged guests experiences that larger cruise ships cannot. Embrace the Viking history with a Baltic cruise holiday, or discover the historic jewels of Northern Europe. The sun-soaked Mediterranean completes a trio of tempting itineraries.
Whether you choose a Viking River Cruise or Viking Ocean Cruise, the world-class service behind the Viking Experience remains the same. Swiss-trained chefs craft exquisite cuisine; from leisurely al fresco lunches, to coffee and croissants on the sun deck and lingering five-course dinners. Wine, beer and soft-drinks are complimentary accompaniments to lunch and dinner, and exceptional speciality dining is included in your ocean cruise package at no extra cost. Award-winning crew are attentive from the very first welcome; there to welcome you back after a long day exploring on shore.
Regional cuisine brings your destination into the dining room, with fresh ingredients selected by chefs each day at the port’s local markets and incorporated into the evening’s cuisine. Enrol on a cookery class and you will join the chef as he selects his produce, before creating your own fine food back on board. Take tips from artisan bakers; indulge your senses at the spice market or sit down to authentic fare in the home of a local; all in the name of experiencing today’s destination. Once home you will regale friends and family with tales of tucking into beef pho in Vietnam, hand-selecting coffee in Vienna and indulging in handmade chocolate truffles in along the riverbanks of Belgium.
On a Viking Cruise, destination is paramount; cities aren’t just explored but experienced. Itineraries go above and beyond the expected, and you will discover not just the land but also the food, cultures and customs of each and every port. Later evening departures and overnight stays gift you the time to see leisurely days transform into vibrant evenings; entertained in the world’s most iconic venues, before enjoying breakfast at a favourite haunt of the locals.

Arriving early in 2022, Viking Octantis will be the first Viking Expeditions ship before being joined by sister ship, Viking Polaris, later in the year.
