Good value, hindered by the weather (not able to dock at 1st port, Dubrovnik), but still had a fab time at Rhodes, Ephesus and Split. The food was plentiful; a bit samey at the Windjammer (pile it high, sell it cheap premise; picture ‘British Night’ as a pizza with egg, bacon and sausage, and puddings of sticky toffee with custard and you get the idea!), but the dining room option was always there and food was of a better quality. For someone who has cruised previously on large ships I have to be honest, this was a little disappointing – the Splendour looked tired and in need of a re-furb; clean…but old looking and much smaller (and noticeably too, when the weather was bad!) than Majesty, Voyager or the P&O Ventura.
The itinerary was packed but also very samey; paper flower making class, towel folding class, zumba, quizzes…but to be fair, as we didn’t dock at Dubrovnik, we did have 2.5 full days at sea at the beginning of the trip and by the end of it we were all getting a little stir crazy!
There were some stand-out crew members particularly in the Entertainment Team who were genuinely funny, amusing and fab to be around and the crew in general were smart, professional and helpful.
In summary, if you’re happy with 3* accommodation, food on tap, happy with pub-style entertainment, you will love this cruise/ship. It did offer value for money, (we paid just ?361 each), and the places we visited were amazing, interesting and absolutely worthwhile doing. A good break late in the year.
