An excellent Cruise BUT……………

Princess Cruises | Sapphire Princess Reviews

We left Southampton on time and arrived in our first port Vigo to mixed weather – we did not book any Princess tours/excursions as they were so expensive – our second port of call was supposed to be Madeira but because of Hurricane Leslie we had to miss this port and go directly to our third port Arrecife; We arrived at about 12noon on Saturday but found the local shops all closed at about 5pm. We spent the following day also in Arrecife as scheduled but being a Sunday there was very little to do – we do not suggest you try the Get on, Get off sightseeing transport as this is not a double-decker bus but a land-train and very cramped.

Monday we arrived at Tenerife where we were able to hire a taxi to take us sightseeing at a very cheap rate. Tuesday we were at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria where the sightseeing was on a red double-decker bus. Thursday we arrived at Lisbon where again the sightseeing was on a red double-decker bus – Caution there is more than one company operating these buses which is confusing but still worth the money.

The entertainment was first class – Comedian Josh Daniels; Illusionists & Magicians Danny Hunt & Stephanie Clarke were excellent but the crème de la crème were – “An Interview with Ann Widdicombe” and “An Interview with Jason Gardner” who filled the Theatre on both occasions – those who didn’t take their seats ONE hour early missed out!

The BUTs……………..(1) Princess surcharge every passenger including children about £10-£15 a night dependent on stateroom type for “tips” for the crew; you can have this removed removed but you have to request this personally at Customer Services (2) Princess sell “coffee cards” which give you a discounted price on 15 speciality coffees plus unlimited brewed coffee and tea – it always used to be that any speciality coffees not used could be used on your next Princess cruise – Not any more! Not used = LOST. This fact has not been published and only crew and a few passengers know – beware. (3) Princess promote Art Auctions and “Effy” Products very aggressively during your cruise – Buyer BEWARE!
