Good value for money

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

This was our first cruise with Fred Olsen. We had a premier suite which was really lovely. Decor throughout was excellent. Food overall was good but only ever 2 starter choices! Also if you opted to go to the Palms cafe for dinner, the food was very limited and often dried up or lukewarm. The cafe is way too small for the guests. People were bumping into one another everywhere and there was often a...

Uncrowded Baltic
By Lynn Moss on 29 October 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

Thoroughly enjoyed our second cruise aboard Balmoral. This is a happy friendly ship with brilliant crew. We were not too impressed with Gothenburg but enjoyed our visits to Copenhagen, Tallin, Helsinki, St. Petersburg and Oslo. St. Petersburg was very busy so I can imagine that it is a nightmare to visit in the summer months. are some amazing cathedrals and waterways in St.Peterburg and it is worth the visit. The entertainment on board was again...

Canada in the Fall
By Michael and Dorothy Wolstencroft on 29 October 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Black Watch Reviews

Friendly service, good food, clean cabins ,quality beds and linen. At 46 years young the ship needs a lot of continuing maintenance to the superstructure and the constant chipping, grinding and banging reverberated into the cabin and around the ship. Sound insulation between cabins is poor. Norovirus impacted on swimming pools, jacuzzis and food service in the dining rooms for the final ten days of the trip with the crew making heroic efforts to isolate...

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Black Watch Reviews

We went to experience new destinations and this was achieved very well. Most of the ports on the St Lawrence Seaway and on Newfoundland are very different from your average cruise destination. The timing was exactly correct for the autumn colours. Sailing from Liverpool was highly convenient. Unfortunately, the weather on both Atlantic crossings was mostly very poor but the ship handles it well. My wife was only rolled out of bed once! The crew...

Middle East Magic
By Margaret Bonthrone on 12 October 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

This was a magical cruise in the Middle East. Fred Olsen came up trumps once again. Eleven cruise lines tried but only one come out top, that is Fred Olsen. This was my 28th with them. The Middle East is so different and spectacular, from all the other places in the world that I have cruised too. To add to the special experience I was upgraded 5 times from an interior cabin on deck 4...

Four ships in Cadiz
By M Lovegrove on 01 October 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

The captain described Boudicca as “A middle-aged lady in need of daily make-up – that’s why you will always see the crew at work with a paintbrush”. This is old style cruising in an older ship which is nevertheless maintained to a high standard with cabins and suites regularly “refreshed”. The cuisine is above average and staff in all departments are very attentive. Entertainment facilities are limited so if you want large ” glittering” West...

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Braemar Reviews

This was a very special cruise which excelled all expectations the effort that the crews from the various ships on the 10 September was exceptional and the treasure hunt was good fun. Seville and Malaga were both amazing Almeria and Lisbon were good but could have bypassed Gibraltar for me. Our waiter Jeffrey and his assistant Josef were the best we have had on any cruise. The bridge was enjoyable but disappointing with the number...

The staff were as usual very friendly and efficient. The weather was good with calm seas most days, The Captains in Cadiz day was especially good with a flamenco dance demonstration, fun games, music and the opportunity to visit the other three ships. We enjoyed all of our shore excursions.

Captains in Cadiz

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

We had a great holiday food, service ports of call all really enjoyable. Only set back was our newly refurbished interior cabin 8058 had a separate toilet Jack and Jill sinks and a shower cubicle at the expense of any real hanging space at all. When I asked the Manager to look for himself as he claimed not to understand what the problem was he agreed one narrow closet with no full length hanging space...

Favourite Ship
By Helen Hodgkiss on 11 September 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

Just returned from our second cruise on Balmoral this summer, both trips to the Scottish Highlands and Islands with our teenage children. The best aspect of smaller ship cruising is the more personal service and attention you receive from the crew, something we have found lacking on other cruise lines with much larger ships. It is also nice to be able to sail much closer into destinations and to be able to get on and...

Scottish Highlands and Islands ref L1826
By Terence Chappell on 11 September 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

Our first cruise with Fred Olsen. Public areas, the layout of the ship and level of service very good. Spey and Avon restaurants were quite special compared with Ballindalloch. Entertainment was good with now fairly rare live orchestra backing in the Neptune Lounge. The cabin was perfectly clean with excellent shower room and unobtrusive stewarding. Cabin no. was 5175, and we found the L-shape bed layout strange, the transverse one having no bedside table or...

Vague disappointment…
By Pauline Finney on 22 August 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

Over many years I have enjoyed cruising with Fred Olsen, particularly home from Australia on the Black Watch in 2005. Haven’t cruised with Fred Olsen for about 4 years now, however, I was on the inaugural Boudicca cruise when she was first acquired by Fred Olsen with usual, expected, “creases to be ironed out” then – which was quite acceptable. However, this time (even after refurbishment I understand) there were several unfathomable atmospheres aboard; restaurant...

Norway the easy way
By Geoffrey B. on 20 August 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

We have been cruising for 10 years, but this was our first time with Fred Olsen. We chose our first cruise to Norway because of good reviews and an easy drive to Newcastle – only about 105 miles from our West Yorkshire home. The port experience was good, with easy car parking and speedy and efficient check-in. Our cabin was ready as soon as we boarded, about 14.30. Balmoral proved to be friendly, well maintained,...

Wonderful destination
By Janet Barber on 16 August 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Black Watch Reviews

The cruise was wonderful but I feel that Black Watch needs to look at their entertainment as there are too many piano’s needs to get a bit more modern like her sister ship Braemar. We went to Iceland/Greenland/ and Norway.

Excellent service

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Black Watch Reviews

When arriving at the port and saw ship for the first time I was not impressed. It looked very old and small. Once on board I was very pleasantly surprised. The whole ship is clean and nicely decorated, the cabins very well presented, spacious and lots of storage space, lovely comfy beds. Staff all excellent as is the food and entertainment and service, nothing too much trouble. Really enjoyed the whole experience on board Black...

Around Britain
By Peter Freeman on 06 June 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

We had a wonderful cruise, with sunshine all the way and flat seas. We found a minor patch of dampness on our cabin carpet, and reported it to Customer Services. The plumber was there within minutes and it was sorted. However, we then received a letter offering us an upgrade to a junior suite. We turned this down, as the proposed cabin was near the ship’s bow, and, my wife being a poor traveller, we...

Excellent but some flaws in the upgrading of this ship.
By Mrs Margaret Bonthrone on 04 June 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

A brilliant cruise to the Swedish Waterways could not ask for better. A beautiful ship but no bar’s near to the restaurants, there is so much wasted space that could have been utilised when the ship was upgraded. In some of the bars, except the Neptune, the waiters were a little slow and would not take advice to make the service better, (like not leaving the lid off the tonic bottle so that the G&T...
