Scottish Highlands and Islands ref L1826
By Terence Chappell on 11 September 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

Our first cruise with Fred Olsen. Public areas, the layout of the ship and level of service very good. Spey and Avon restaurants were quite special compared with Ballindalloch. Entertainment was good with now fairly rare live orchestra backing in the Neptune Lounge. The cabin was perfectly clean with excellent shower room and unobtrusive stewarding. Cabin no. was 5175, and we found the L-shape bed layout strange, the transverse one having no bedside table or...

Vague disappointment…
By Pauline Finney on 22 August 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

Over many years I have enjoyed cruising with Fred Olsen, particularly home from Australia on the Black Watch in 2005. Haven’t cruised with Fred Olsen for about 4 years now, however, I was on the inaugural Boudicca cruise when she was first acquired by Fred Olsen with usual, expected, “creases to be ironed out” then – which was quite acceptable. However, this time (even after refurbishment I understand) there were several unfathomable atmospheres aboard; restaurant...

Norway the easy way
By Geoffrey B. on 20 August 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

We have been cruising for 10 years, but this was our first time with Fred Olsen. We chose our first cruise to Norway because of good reviews and an easy drive to Newcastle – only about 105 miles from our West Yorkshire home. The port experience was good, with easy car parking and speedy and efficient check-in. Our cabin was ready as soon as we boarded, about 14.30. Balmoral proved to be friendly, well maintained,...

Wonderful destination
By Janet Barber on 16 August 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Black Watch Reviews

The cruise was wonderful but I feel that Black Watch needs to look at their entertainment as there are too many piano’s needs to get a bit more modern like her sister ship Braemar. We went to Iceland/Greenland/ and Norway.

Excellent service
By Elaine on 01 August 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Black Watch Reviews

When arriving at the port and saw ship for the first time I was not impressed. It looked very old and small. Once on board I was very pleasantly surprised. The whole ship is clean and nicely decorated, the cabins very well presented, spacious and lots of storage space, lovely comfy beds. Staff all excellent as is the food and entertainment and service, nothing too much trouble. Really enjoyed the whole experience on board Black...

Around Britain
By Peter Freeman on 06 June 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

We had a wonderful cruise, with sunshine all the way and flat seas. We found a minor patch of dampness on our cabin carpet, and reported it to Customer Services. The plumber was there within minutes and it was sorted. However, we then received a letter offering us an upgrade to a junior suite. We turned this down, as the proposed cabin was near the ship’s bow, and, my wife being a poor traveller, we...

Excellent but some flaws in the upgrading of this ship.
By Mrs Margaret Bonthrone on 04 June 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

A brilliant cruise to the Swedish Waterways could not ask for better. A beautiful ship but no bar’s near to the restaurants, there is so much wasted space that could have been utilised when the ship was upgraded. In some of the bars, except the Neptune, the waiters were a little slow and would not take advice to make the service better, (like not leaving the lid off the tonic bottle so that the G&T...

Not as good as expected
By Ralph Tracy on 14 May 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Braemar Reviews

This was a repeat of a similar cruise up the French and Spanish rivers we took two years ago. The standards are dropping significantly. Most of the fairly average food was tarted up with alcohol to give it some flavour – unfortunately, I can’t digest alcohol without serious side effects and when challenged I received just a shrug of the shoulders and a suggestion to only pick from other few poor choices that I wasn’t...

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Braemar Reviews

We have done 30 cruises to date and it is the first time we have cruised with Fred Olsen and were pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the ship and the friendliness of the staff and the food was perhaps the best we have experienced on any cruise. We certainly won’t hesitate in cruising with Fred again.

Trying Out Fred Olsen Over Easter
By Wimborne Pete on 02 May 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Braemar Reviews

We were trying out Fred Olsen for the first time with a week long cruise to Ireland over Easter. Our previous sailings had mainly been with P&O. Accepting the ships were smaller and the facilities were thus a bit less, on the whole we had no problem with the ship or the cruise line based on what we encountered. However, whoever drew up the itinerary for this cruise should take a long hard look at...

6 days to Ireland
By sharon B on 16 April 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Braemar Reviews

The ship is small and very friendly. Food is amazing!! Staff are so courteous and helpful. Would really recommend this ship if you want to relax and unwind. Three eating areas. Library – well stocked for such a small ship. Entertainment very good. There was not a lot of activities but what they provided was excellent. Only “tiny gripe” for us – we went on a shore excursion and came back to the ship after...

Orange blossom

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Braemar Reviews

Booked the cruise so we could see the orange blossom. Unfortunately it was late as Spain had a month of solid rain. It was the first time we had been on Braemar for about ten years. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The food, crew and entertainment were very good. Would definitely go again.

Very good cruise in a very good ship. Our first cruise with Fred Olsen but would go with them again. We were not impressed with the Captain as he gave no reports of sights we were passing nothing to look out for as we were to understand we could have seen sea life plus we never saw him around the ship talking to his passengers on other ships we have always seen the captain around the...

Fantastic cruise to South America
By Mrs Beryl Corby on 22 March 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

We have just returned to the UK after a great cruise to South America on the Balmoral. The ship was wonderful, no complaints whatsoever. Entertainment was excellent, food was good, and crew ( cabin staff , entertainment team and dining room staff )were really friendly and efficient. I attended the craft class which was given by two fabulous women ( Christine and Hillary ), and the things we made were absolutely lovely. The Captain kept...

Atlantic Odyssey
By Paul Taylor on 09 March 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

The only real downside was the poor availability of the shore excursions, most of which were fully booked weeks before the cruise began and with a long waiting list. Fred Olsen’s response was that all shore excursions are offered on a first come first serve basis but that is not the point. There were significantly insufficient excursion places overall to meet the demand and therefore whatever order and however early guests tried to book, a...

Outdated and Tired
By Brian Flack on 20 February 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Boudicca Reviews

When are Fred Olsen going to replace the ships with newer and more modern ships and come into this century??? When looking around this ship both inside and on deck you can see just how old this ship is. It is having a two week refit in March but how much can be done in two weeks!!! NOTE: be warned, when the ship dispenses black smoke from its funnel the upper rear open decks suffer...

Mum’s first cruise
By Terry Smith on 02 February 2018
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines | Balmoral Reviews

As the title suggests, this was mum’s first cruise at the age of 78. It was the 3 night River Seine Sojourn and gave her a good idea of what cruising entails. Despite a bumpier than expected crossing mum started to relax after dinner in the restaurant and was enthralled by the evening show – Bon voyage. The singers and dancers were full of energy and very talented, both shows were excellent. The comedian also...
