Cunard – Japan/Alaska Cruise
Glyn Clark | June 30, 2023 | Cunard | Queen Elizabeth
We had an amazing trip. The Itinerary was well put together, the staff as always were great. The cabin & passenger spaces were clean and comfortable. The entertainment was (in the main) very good and varied. The shore excursions were pretty good and value for money. Our transfer to Vancouver Airport via Hilton Hotel was good. There was plenty of food & drinks available & a help desk for any queries. Use of a comfortable lounge would have helped given the time we were there 10.30 to 16.00.
Food on the ship was adequate. Britannia restaurant food was warm, never hot. For the first time ever we did not have Lobster on the menu on a Gala night (9 in total). Could not understand why I never saw an asparagus tip, just the stalk. How the ship could run out of pineapples, bananas, prunes etc is beyond me. The choice of whiskies in the bars less than half of those listed on the drinks menu. A major issue for me was how laxed the door staff in Britannia restaurant were in allowing a passenger into the dining room on a Gala night with sandals & NO SOCKS was appalling. it was noticeable the number of guests wearing outdoor coats rather than a suit or a dinner jacket on these 9 occasions. On casual nights guests were allowed in wearing ‘t ‘shirts (not ironed) rather than a collard shirt. I think if Cunard want to keep relying on White Star Service as a brand enhancement then it aught to improve standards, or just become another bland cheap cruise line. to end on a positive Dianne lost her credit card whilst in Alaska, and the purser’s desk were very kind & helpful.
