Not worth the money
Victoria Mellor | September 13, 2021 | Cunard | Queen Elizabeth
We were bitterly disappointed by our cruise to the Scottish Isles and back. We had booked Queens Grill as a treat and our cabin 7042 was a strange shape with the bathroom being very narrow. There was a lot of wasted space due to an unnecessary bar area and rather large work desk. It was not the spacious room we were expecting and none of the floor plans on the Cunard site showed us a suite of this configuration.
The Queens Grille restaurant was very well set out but the quality of food was very mixed. I had Chateaubriand which was full of gristle and really poor, a mixed salad came as plain lettuce tomato cucumber and pepper on a plate with no dressing. When I asked for a French dressing what came was dreadful. I complained to the head waiter and maitre d’hotel who did apologise and offer other choices but they too were not up to scratch. One morning I chose kedgeree which came as boiled yellow rice with little fish in it. We asked if they that short of chefs but we were told that all was well.
I would say they were more interested on the frills and fancies rather than the quality of the food they were serving. Paying for 4* food and ending up with 2* standard I do not think is acceptable.
On the plus side the service was excellent both in the restaurants and the suite, all the staff worked exceptionally hard to please and the actual trip was very pleasant especially going round the Scottish Islands.
Although we complained on the ship I am surprised that Cunard have not asked for feedback from their customers as all other cruise lines have done immediately upon arrival home. Perhaps they too knew things were not up to scratch.
The COVID procedures were very well organised.
