John Anderson | April 20, 2019 | Cunard | Queen Mary 2
My wife and I have been on both of Cunards other two ships the VIctoria and the Elizabeth, so it was our wish to cruise on there flag ship QM2, so we decided for a cruise again to the Norwegian Fiords as we first went there on the Queen Victoria.
Firstly the ship is very big, and because my wife has a walking disability a wheelchair is essential,we decided again for a balcony cabin with un restricted views, but what a shock to us when we opened our balcony door, on the outside consisted of two sun loungers and a very small table in white colour, all of these had flaking paint, also the paint was peeling on the sides of the screens and there was a plastic drain which was also cracked, so little time was spent out there relaxing.
Other people complained of the smell of smoke from cigarettes in the G32 club and the smell of cigars in other areas from the Churchill cigar lounge, must guests have to smell other peoples smoke from internal areas of the ship.
Again Cunard lets it self down with its rules and policies, on occasions we noticed some people entering the Britannia restaurant wearing jeans and only a shirt, nothing was said to them regarding the dress code.
And again in the royal court theatre there were seating labelled up for disabled people only, no staff were on hand to make sure this was upheld, my wife had to sit in her wheelchair, as the layout of the theatre has restricted views of the stage.
Onto the good points, service from all the staff in all the areas of the ship was excellent, the food was of a very good standard with many choices from breakfast to dinner, we dinned in the lower level of the Britannia restaurant each day and the waiters were first class all of the holiday.
The tours booked on board ship seemed expensive for what you get, and talking to many people, they seemed to prefer to organise there own trips through local taxis and buses.
So to round up our cruise, QM2 is in need of work in certain areas, especially guest cabins, more staff are needed to make sure the ships rules and policies are carried out, and would we cruise again on her. Yes we would as this is a great ship but just a little tired in places.
