Enjoyable Caribbean Cruise on Britannia

P&O Cruises | Britannia Reviews

We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise, which was our first time on Britannia although we have cruised many times with P&O. We found our balcony cabin (with sofa) comfortable, spacious and with plenty of storage space. The large shower with glass screen was good – although we found the water pressure rather poor. The downside was the very small size of the balcony – very narrow and difficult for 2 people to sit out in comfort. This was a shame as this is usually an important part of our cruise experience. Our cabin steward was helpful and efficient in his duties.

We had no problem with finding the ship ‘too big’. We soon learnt our way around and enjoyed the various spaces and choices of dining venues. We felt that the lack of a proper promenade deck for exercise and for quiet outdoor seating was a negative in the design of the ship. However, there was normally quiet outdoor seating to be had in the pleasant surroundings of the sunset bar.

We enjoyed the food on offer in the main dining room (we were club dining in Oriental restaurant) and also in Epicurean, Glass House and Limelight Club. Service was attentive and excellent in all these venues. We also enjoyed the Java coffee shop.

As always our main negative comment to make is about the exorbitant cost of the various IT packages on board. This really does need to change.

We enjoyed the various ports of call and had good weather throughout the holiday. Whilst in St Maarten we took the new ‘St Barths on your own’ time excursion. This was an excellent opportunity to see that very exclusive island – but you really do have to be a good sailor to make the 45-minute crossing to St Barth’s as you are going against the current and it is an extremely bumpy ride.

Several people were seasick but they were well looked after by the ferry crew. Coming back is a smooth ride with the current and therefore enjoyable.

Our flights were on the Tui Dreamliner and we were in the very comfortable premium economy seats. However – flights were delayed both ways due to technical problems (2 hours delay going out and over 3 hours coming home) so this was not a good start or end to the holiday. Once on board, the cabin crew were very helpful and the food was very good.

All in all, and minor niggles aside, we had a most enjoyable holiday and whilst aboard booked for the Caribbean with P&O next year.
