My dream was to sail into New York (rather than flying) – and fulfilling this on the Queen Mary 2 certainly lived up to expectations. The splendid art-deco style interior decor everywhere, especially the grand dining room and the theatres were very special. Our stateroom, although spacious and cleverly designed, was let down a little by the ageing shower cubicle. The service from absolutely everyone we encountered was outstanding.
We had not realised that apart from dinner, we could eat breakfast and lunch wherever we chose and we found it very enjoyable to meet and talk with all sorts of people. But the other reason we chose this Transatlantic Crossing was because a team from English National Ballet were on board. Watching these world-class dancers at daily class, rehearsing and then performing as well as watching ENB teachers work with a group of dance-loving guests was a truly special privilege.
