Braemar River Cruise
Gemma Hurst | May 11, 2019 | Fred Olsen Cruise Lines | Braemar
As we arrived into Southampton Braemar was docked behind a huge car transporter ship making it look tiny in comparison. We whizzed through embarkation where all the staff were friendly and polite, I almost felt like a VIP as check in was so quick. Once on board we made our way to our cabin, we had a mid ship balcony cabin on deck 7. It was a really good location as it was just opposite the stairwell up to the lido deck so very convenient.
Our cabin was very well laid out with 3 single beds, one of them been a roll away bed for my daughter, I was a little concerned about the size of the cabin and the roll away bed however I shouldn’t have been. The cabin was a really good size with plenty of space for all of us, the only thing we needed slightly more of was drawer space.
There was a good choice of dinning venues on board, our favourite been the Grampian for formal dining because it was small and intimate.
The entertainment on board was very low key, it catered really well to Fred’s target audience, we loved the crew show, it gave us a real insight to where all the staff come from and it made you feel like Freds really look after and value there on board team
The itinerary on this cruise was amazing, we went down the river in to Bordeaux which was a great experience, we were there for 2 days but could easily have stayed all week, it is on my list of places to go back too.
My final thoughts on Fred Olsen are that the staff really make the holiday, they really were amazing. I have been lucky enough to travel with lots of different cruise operators over the years but staff with Freds outshined the rest. The food on board was excellent and the entertainment was very good. We would definitely travel with Freds again as they do some fabulous itineraries.
