Slightly disappointing

Slightly disappointed this cruise. Ship clean, food good, our steward San was exceptional. All food and beverage stewards unfailingly willing and friendly. Downsides were that our cabins 504 and 506 Main Deck were very noisy. Passengers in this area of same opinion. Trouble with overflowing showers and leaks, although these were rectified., but resulted in days with de humidifiers and carpets being shampooed. Woken on port morning as early as 5.30 due to engine noise and docking equipment which is expected but not for over an hour before we docked. Third night we were kept awake by engine noise and when we reported this to the front desk at early next morning we were asked why we did not phone them during the night as they had not heard it. Fair point, but does this mean no crew member walks round the decks during the night? The front desk were also indiferent to our requests for information regarding our disembarkation. We realized we would have to off the ship by 8.30am for a 5.15 pm flight and had no alternative but to sit in the airport or purchase a tour from Holland America round Fort Lauderdale which was not very interesting. We had to cart our baggage around with us all day. We were told at first that for a fee of $19 pp we could have our bags taken to the airport and for a further fee of $25 perbag could get them checked in. Felt this was rather steep as we had paid already for a transfer to airport. However it turned out a few days later that this was not available for passengers to UK. We all felt the entertainment was poor. This ship is very popular with elderly and passengers with slight disabilities, and we must say that the crew were most helpful to them at all times. Given the noise and the difficulties with disembarkation compared with other cruise lines we have used we do not think we will travel with Holland America again.
