Extremely disappointing New Years Eve on Arcadia
Pauline Edwards | January 16, 2020 | P&O Cruises | Arcadia
Just a quick review of our New Year cruise on Arcadia. First time on the ship – it was lovely. We were in cabin C205 – aft balcony – it was fabulous. The food was excellent as were the staff. We enjoyed the places we visited. The ship was small but so easy to find our way around. We didn’t see the Captain once – which we found unusual for P and O.
We were a bit disappointed that there were no official fireworks in Amsterdam – the authorities had decided not to have them this year – I think for environmental issues. However, there were plenty of fireworks from the local people – they went on till at least 3am.
I must say I was very disappointed in P and O’s contribution towards our NYE – we ate in the upper dining room – and there was absolutely nothing there to say it was New Years Eve – not a banner, balloon, streamer or hat. The only thing was the menu had NYE printed on it. We could have paid £100 for a booth in The Globe – and we would have had a bottle of fizz and hats. Well, when I have paid a fair bit for the cruise I don’t expect to have to spend extra for a few trimmings. We went on the deck for midnight – there were no crew on deck apart from a couple of waiters behind the bar. Some other guests had a phone which told us when the countdown to midnight was near – so we ended up making our own entertainment.
We spoke to several other guests and they were equally disappointed. Some had been on NYE cruises before and said they had always had extras – special chocs on the bed and more. I don’t expect anything for nothing – but I do like value for money. I do feel it is outrageous that people were expected to pay £100 for a seat in The Globe – never heard of anything like it before on a cruise. So disappointing – the promotions for the cruise were all saying – Come and celebrate NYE with P and O. Well we tried – but were really let down.
