Aurora’s November Caribbean cruise
Penelope Nicholson | December 18, 2022 | P&O Cruises | Aurora
This cruise was originally booked for November 2020. We had a fairly easy embarkation and were in time for the luncheon which exceeded expectations. After a couple of days the sun deck was opened so were able to play quoits. In the past quoits and shuffleboard were played at the same time but now quoits was in the morning and shuffleboard afternoon. After leaving Madeira we had a good crossing to St Martin where we were the only ship in. This was the case in Antigua, Grenada, Guadeloupe and Barbados. We found the prices in the Caribbean have gone up considerably. We did have liquid sunshine most days. On the way back we stopped off at the Azores.
Now for the ship. We found she sailed a lot better than in the past. She was looking a bit tired. The food was good but not quite as much choice in the evening. We weren’t impressed with the menu at lunch time in the Meridian restaurant so ate in the Horizon. We had a meal at the beach house and were very disappointed. The entertainment was excellent apart from a couple of acts. Maurice Grumbleed was brilliant. He was the only ‘old timer’ entertainer so it was good seeing new blood. The speakers were also good – a reporter whose name I can’t remember and an ex policeman talking about murders.
Unfortunately there were cut backs. No cocktail parties – only a half glass of champagne one formal night and a glass of wine another night. No chefs’ parade and no chocolate on the pillow. More people seemed to complain about that the most!!!
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the cruise on my favourite ship.
