Our Special Ruby Wedding Cruise
Douglas Donnelly | April 15, 2014 | P&O Cruises | Aurora
Not being regular cruisers but having one or two cruises over the years, we decided cruising was the best way for us to celebrate our special day on 13th September. The last cruise we went on was to the Fiords so chose the Med because we felt sure we would have some lovely sunshine (though our cruise to the Fiords surprised us as we had gorgeous weather most of the time).
We were not disappointed, the weather was superb so we took advantage of the many decks on Aurora on which to relax and chill out, with the occasional swim!
The food in the restaurants was varied and beautifully presented, though the service was a little slower than we would have liked sometimes. Though we chose ‘freedom dining’ and were happy with this, there were one or two occasions we would have liked a table just to ourselves, but this was rarely possible.
The entertainment was mostly enjoyable though we couldn’t help thinking that a lot of the musical items were geared to the younger element – it being overly loud – and looking at the average age-group on board, a little more variety of musical styles would have been appreciated.
All the ship’s amenities were super – I played bridge every sea day and my wife joined the choir – the Aurora Singers, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
The highlight of course was our Ruby Wedding meal in the Sindhu restaurant – it was superb.
Altogether, we had a really lovely holiday and have decided that this is the way we will holiday in the future – whether it is with P&O or another cruise line – it all depends on who is offering a really good deal!
The on-board spends and the free coach travel to Southampton were huge bonuses to us with our limited income.
