Another great cruise on Azura
Chris Parkee | December 10, 2022 | P&O Cruises | Azura
Great cruise again on Azura. Horrified to find out Noro virus was onboard when we boarded, it was being dealt with by enhanced hygiene protocols and seemed to be under control and fortunately we did not get it. Our cabin L104 was not the best cabin to be allocated as it is right at the front of the ship so you feel a lot of movement. At every docking you feel a lot of vibration in the cabin. In the bathroom you hear a constant bubbling noise from the thermal suite and also noise from treadmills in the gym above. Other than that it is a lovely spacious cabin with a large window overlooking the observation deck. The ship overall was good and looked lovely after the Christmas decorations were added. Food not as good as it should be. We were on Azura for 3 weeks in April / May and it seems to be very mediocre this time round. Lots of complaints from other passengers especially at breakfast where there was no choice of jams and no marmalade. Apparently it is a supply issue in the Canary Islands as they can’t get any. This is however easy enough to resolve, get one of the other ships to bring some to Tenerife where the ship is in port for 2 days each week, make some, as there are plenty of oranges in the Canary Islands, or tell passengers to bring some with them to stop the complaints. Entertainment was good except for the comedians on board as guest entertainers. Manuel Martinez whom we have seen before and would never see again is man who gets his laughs from sexist and racist comments which personally we feel is unacceptable. The headliners theatre group were excellent. Plenty of daytime activities for everyone. The Canary Islands are one of our favourite cruises to do and they did not disappoint. We had glorious weather which helped and lots of late departures from port so we were able to make the most of our time in ports of call. We also cruise with other cruise lines and note that P&O seem to be the only cruise line still struggling with a shortage of staff, there is still no Captains or Peninsular club parties and still no photographers on board. The crew on board were as always amazing and doing a fantastic job. Azura is apparently due for a refit next year and as we have 3 further cruises booked on her in the future we hope we see a big improvement next time we sail on her.
