Azura Easter 2019 – Portugal and Spain
Susan Jones | November 21, 2019 | P&O Cruises | Azura
I’ve been on Azura once some years ago so I knew it was unlikely to be my favorite ship now is some years older and not yet refurbished. And I wasn’t wrong, Azura is looking very tired and tatty around the edges and the layout of it is not at all intuitive. The food in the main restaurant was very good (we always do club dining) and we tried The Epicurean, Sindhu, the Beach House and the Glass House.
The Epicurean – dinner was indeed epic, well worth the money, afternoon tea was too odd. There were so many flavours that it started to feel like an exam for a new chef a few “normal” sandwiches nicely made would have transformed it. Wouldn’t pay for the tea again.
Sindhu – love it for lunch and dinner – big portions though.
The Beach House – I don’t find it worth the money – the surroundings are pedestrian (feels like eating in the buffet) and the food isn’t sufficiently different or good to pay extra. It’s the third ship we’ve tried it on and I have finally admitted defeat. No more Beach House.
Glass House – Love it for lunch
Lunch in the main dining room was beautifully set and served and terrible in quality!
Late night buffet – the bizarre toasted sandwiches and pizza never failed to entertain
Sea screen cinema – I hated. I really didn’t want to watch a film in the hot sun squinting at the screen on a sunbed trying to hear through the squeals of the children happily enjoying the pool. I gave up. Films in Malabar weren’t much better but at least you weren’t fighting for a sunbed!
Disappointed P&O have stopped bridge lessons on cruises under 14 nights. Ours was 13 nights and I struggled to find anything that wasn’t a talk on selling some P&O product or other some days. I don’t have a problem with P&O making money through select dining and drinks are reasonably priced but cutting out things like the bridge is a problem and it will get to the point that I give up on P&O very sadly.
I won’t be booking Iona unless they have club dining. I’m a single parent with one child – I don’t want to sit on my own every night or be with totally differnt people every night – I like to get to know people so I don’t feel on my own for two weeks.
Cabin steward was good and the dining room staff were excellent.
Overall decent value for money but not as stellar a holiday as some we’ve had. Looking forward to Christmas on Britannia though!
