Azura – February 2014
Rosemary Fisher | August 29, 2014 | P&O Cruises | Azura
We like Azura, although there are 3,000 people on board most of the ship does not feel overcrowded. Except that is, for the central area around the swimming pools. We tended to avoid these places as there was often noise and music and films being shown on the sea screen and our preference was for some peace and quiet. We were very glad we had a balcony cabin as this allowed us an escape and some precious privacy.
We were well looked after by our cabin steward who kept the cabin clean. He visited us at least twice a day to keep everything nice.
The food was very good and we liked the silver service in the restaurant, although we did not partake of the special restaurants for which there was a cover charge of ?28 pp. It was rumoured, that P&O are going over to “plated meals” as from April, but I don’t know if this is true. If it is then it will be a shame.
The evening entertainment by Headliners Theatre Company was excellent. Other performers though varied enormously. There were 4 sea days on this cruise whereas there only used to be 2 sea days previously. P&O obviously are doing this to save money and also to encourage passengers to spend money on the ship. The day-time entertainment on sea days was spoken of by some passengers as “Butlins on Sea” with Bingo and promotional activities for the ship’s services. There was only one guest speaker and no one to give talks about the flora and other aspects of the places we visited. The ship’s tours department did the only Port Talks and these were aimed at selling the ship’s tours which were very expensive.
