azura -good and bad
A and F.Morton | June 4, 2014 | P&O Cruises | Azura
Our previous experience of P&O was on Ventura (Caribbean Feb 2012), which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our Azura cruise (Jan 2014) was still very enjoyable, but overall the experience was not as good , for several reasons:-
a) our flight (from Birmingham/First Choice ) wasn’t as good; had to pay for all drinks, (expensive), less cabin crew service – obvious cutbacks!
b) cabin aircon wasn’t as cool as on Ventura, so sleeping at night was less comfortable
c) the new big screen over one of the main pools played football or films at fairly high volume-fine if you’re a fan, but for the rest of us, it made all the other pool areas and quieter spots more crowded. Even some football fans found this inappropriate; a big mistake on P&O’s part. A lot of people complained about this.
d) Far too many passengers had paid far less than the going rate- in some cases, about half price. We booked early, paid nearly full price, yet didn’t get much on-board spend in compensation this time compared to Ventura 2 years ago. This devalued the cruise in several ways- there seemed to be a higher proportion of “booze-cruisers” this time! Some people had paid less than you’d pay for a package holiday in Spain, at times more 3* than 4*.
d) the new itinerary visited about 6 islands on consecutive days, more tiring, then had 2 sea days right at the end of the holiday, which was a bit of an anti-climax. It would have been better to have spread them more evenly.
None of the above will stop us cruising, but 1) we won’t ever book early again, we’ll look for a “bargain” online, like a large proportion of our fellow passengers had obviously done!!
2) maybe it won’t be with P&O next time, unless they change their approach.
