CRUISE 14th SEPT – 1st Oct 2014
PETER HAYTON | September 10, 2014 | P&O Cruises | Azura
Initial excitement as we left Southampton for a 17 day cruise was soon reduced to disappointment on day three when we arrived at our first point of call ‘Gibralta’ to find that we only had 5 hours to explore. our disappointment was echoed by as many others on the ship.
The above disappointment was repeated at the majority of the ports of call.
To add to our increasing disappointment the ship then had an outbreak of a stomach infection approx day 5/6, emergency procedures were put in place and the outside eating areas closed down as well as the Verona restaurant ‘evening’, which reduced the eating options. On previous cruises we were not allowed into any of the restaurants without using the hand hygiene dispensers, this was not the case until the outbreak, reactive procedures are always going to be difficult to reduce the speed and numbers of people affected, far better to be pro active in the first place.
Azura is capable of 28 knots, we sailed at an average of 18 knots from Southampton to Gibralta, 16.5 knots from Gibralta to Messina – to arrive in port not before 09:00, something has happened with P&O and I believe ‘COST CUTTING’ is at the heart of the issue.
The entertainment was 2nd rate, the highlights company did not join the ship until Gibralta, and then performed only 4 shows on a 17 day cruise, we really enjoyed the Highlight shows on our previous cruise with P&O Azura earlier this year.
Overall, a very disappointing cruise, we are confident that we will not be the only customers who will feel let down by the cost cutting and hope that a response from your selves on behalf of P&O or even from P&O themselves will forth coming.
Since our return we have not spoke about our next adventure / cruise, we both feel that standards will be further reduced, we feel at the moment a cruise option will be a 2nd / 3rd choice for the foreseeable future.
