Ok but could have been better.
David Biddle | January 2, 2019 | P&O Cruises | Britannia
A week back from a Carribean cruise. The Britannia turned out not to be our favourite P and O ship. The design with no stairs mid ships meant that the lifts were almost always busy, a tiny promenade area (you have to go round nine times to do a mile), the position of the lifeboats sticking out from the side rather than inset as we have experienced on other ships were intrusive and what we thought was bland décor left us a bit underwhelmed. In addition, there was a leak of water in the lift area on deck 15 which had not been fixed during the whole of the cruise despite dehumidifiers being operated 24/7. Some improvement in regular maintenance also was required eg the taps on the hand washing basin to the Horizon buffet area were loose and again were not fixed during the time we were on the ship. A number of other passengers agreed that the ship was “OK” but not more than that.
Having said the above there was a strong emphasis on safety training for the crew with a number of training exercises throughout the cruise.
The staff were very helpful and cheerful, especially our cabin steward. The food as good and some commentated that it had improved since they were last on the ship. We thought the Beach restaurant to be very good value with a £7.50 cover charge; much less than the other speciality restaurants which we did not use. Prices for drinks were moderate without the service charge experienced on Cunard etc. Our cabin and the public areas were clean.
Our last cruise to the Caribbean was on the Azura which we much preferred.
