So glad we did it!

Some of our friends thought we were mad travelling from Yorkshire to Southampton for a trip to Liverpool and return, but that’s because they couldn’t see that the pleasure was in the travelling rather than the visit. So much so that we didn’t bother going on an excursion, staying on the ship for 7 full days.
Britannia was a new ship for us but as long standing P&O passengers we had enough background to know what to expect and we were not disappointed. She was very comfortable, clean and well appointed. Admittedly we chose a superior deluxe cabin which had a sitting room and bath with shower as well as a balcony. I guess I wasn’t surprised at the size of the balcony, just disappointed. We are not large people but it was really hard to avoid knocking into the furniture or banging into the infrastructure.
However we were happy with our choice of freedom dining and enjoyed most of the meals. The exception was the Limelight Club which was best described as mediocre, but maybe I chose the wrong dishes.
Actually the Limelight was generally a disappointment and I don’t expect we will be rushing to see John Partridge (whoever he is) in cabaret again. Grumble over.
This highlight on board for most passengers were The Trawlermen a foot tapping folk trio who regularly delighted passengers in the atrium.
The numbers of guests was definitely well below capacity which gave loads of room on the public decks and inside. No worries about social distancing and everyone wore face masks.
The staff were wonderful, the service attentive, and all the passengers we met were extremely happy to be sharing time at sea.
We could have easily done another trip up to Liverpool but it wasn’t possible. However, I will keep my eye open for another British cruise in the future although a few additional port calls would be much appreciated. So glad we did it.
