Thumbs down for Britannia
Ian Flude | August 21, 2014 | P&O Cruises | Britannia
Having just returned from a cruise on the new Britannia I have to say I was very disappointed. Having seen all the hype about this ship my wife and I felt let down by what we found. while the atrium was nice it was nothing that could not be found in any shopping centre in the country. The Wow factor was defenatley missing the colours brown and grey looked drab and not that exciting. there was no flow to the ship always going up and down. Our inside cabin was nice and comfortable but small than on other ships, when we asked about this we were told it was designed that way so passengers would spend more time on deck (spending money) you even have to pay for ice cream. talking of paying we were very disappointed to see that you have to pay to go in the limelight club we did want to see the Eric & Ern show but do not see why we have to pay again so see the entertainment.
The entertainment was a bit hit and miss Jimmy James, Gareth Oliver and the Opera Boys were great, but Gary Arbuthnot and the violinsts were not up to much and really should have been in the live lounge not the theatre, the show cast was good. The food was good but in freedom dinning the menus got a bit repetitive Tomato soup and prawn cocktail 3 or 4 days running.
On the whole we think that P&O have missed the boat with Britannia it is lacking the wow factor that some of its competitors have, while it may be aimed at the British market those of us that are below the age of 60 have come to expect a bit more from our holiday and it would do P&O well to remember that we are the future of cruising.
