Caribbean – Not all about the shopping
Tim Williams | November 12, 2016 | Princess Cruises | Caribbean Princess
I should point out that I’ve been on this ship before (six years ago) and not a great deal has changed. I don’t mean that this in a bad way as she is still a beautiful ship and the layout is really do, but she is starting to show a few signs of age (i.e. decor needs updating in some areas, lifts were constantly out of order, etc.). However, it IS still a great experience.
I can’t complain about much (not really the English way I know!), the food was excellent, the service was fantastic (apart from when the head waiter in our dinning room gave our fixed time table to someone else an hour before we were booked in and, obviously, they had not finished when we turned up. We made our point to him and he didn’t make the mistake again! – put it down to second night on the job hassle as he was also quite rude, but he did apologise later the same evening – so all forgiven).
Only slight complaint, and it was not unique to this trip, is that Princess do push the sell, sell, sell a little too much – constant shopping brochures posted at cabin, and again when getting off – Diamonds international must be owned by Princess and this was ‘pushed’ the most. In some cases it was like time-share salesmen’s of old (i.e. you had to take the piece of paper to shut them up!). Not everyone wants to get off a ship and simply go shopping at EVERY port, but I guess this must be a way that they make a lot of their income? In all, a little too much in my liking.
Biggest problem of the whole trip was the BRITISH AIRWAYS flights to and from. Problems both ways (and lost cases both ways), but put a real ‘downer’ on the end of what was a really enjoyable trip. BA need to take look at the Princess customer service (with the exception of the shopping sales team!) who were very helpful.
Overall, I would certainly recommend this cruise line and ship (but fly there with someone else!). Already planning our next trip.
