We booked this cruise as a short break there was me, my mum,my friend and her grandmother. Boarding the Ship at Southampton was the easiest embarkation ever ,we were out of our car and on board in about 40 mins me and my mum shared a case so the porters put this straight onto the ship for us after we embarked it took us about 10 mins to find our cabin. We dumped our hand bags in the safe and went to explore the ship ,we headed to the top of the ship and immediately found the hot tub area!me and my friend spent most of our daytime sunbathing there,it also had an adults only pool and a bar and the horizon buffet was just through the doors to the side PERFECT!!
Our cabin was a balcony stateroom it was a little dated and could of done with a refit but we had no problem with it ,the best bit is, it is so quiet and being at the front of the ship there was very little traffic going back and forth ,although the first and last night was a bit rocky and we could hear the waves crashing against the bow !! but there was plenty of space for all our bits and bobs and we had plenty of hangers so no problem there.
We found the food to be really good a bit unusual at times but there is something for everyone’s tastes we used the horizon buffet for lunch and dined in the main silver service resturant in the evening and for breakfast, the food was always piping hot at all times and the staff were very pleasant.
The only thing we had a small gripe about is the price of the drinks plus the 15% gratuity ,we enjoy a drink on the nights out so it worked out quite expensive for us but it’s an american ship and everywhere in the U.S is more expensive for drinks so we half expected it,We had budgeted for this so not too much of a shock !!!
The Grand Princess as an overall product has something for everyone and would suit couples, singles and familys alike.however the ship is in need of some serious update the corridors and lounges are dull, the cabins need a full overall re-fit as they are seriously dated and the balconys shown signs of wear and tear (rust).Although it’s atrium has had a refit you wouldnt really tell as just looks like another other ship.
Overall the experience was great and no compliants about the entertainment or service as this was great!
