I had never cruised with Royal Caribbean before – and am unlikely to do so again. Having paid for a cabin with a balcony, I expected to find coffee and tea making facilities in my room but there were none. All travel irons were confiscated from passengers before we cruised. There was no launderette on the ship but a laundry service was offered. T-Shirts and underwear would be washed but not ironed and a small bag of laundry cost approx. $26. The Internet access was 65 cents per minute yet it was very hard to access and very slow once connected. There was no dedicated expert in the IT suite to assist passengers. Although we paid for the tips ‘up front’, clearly the staff expected more on our departure. The main entertainment was usually held in The Centrum, which was an atrium in the centre of the ship but it was just not big enough. They had a decent ballroom but did not use it enough. We found the staff at reception sometimes surly and not all spoke good enough English. The evening shows were quite entertaining.
The waiting staff were very helpful and friendly – nothing was too much trouble. The food was not half as good as P & O ships and there was no afternoon tea. Just cookies! We are obviously P & O people – and that’s the company that will get our future business.
