Title: Joined sector of world cruise Brisbane to Mumbai Summary: The ship is old and it shows. It’s the first cruise we’ve done where we were given a key to open the cabin door. They were changing the doors throughout the cruise though. The ship was very rusty and there was a lot of mastic holding in windows. A lot of the deck was rotting. The cabin and en-suite were fine though. The food was very good and the service in the dining room excellent....

Title: Canada in the Fall Summary: Friendly service, good food, clean cabins ,quality beds and linen. At 46 years young the ship needs a lot of continuing maintenance to the superstructure and the constant chipping, grinding and banging reverberated into the cabin and around the ship. Sound insulation between cabins is poor. Norovirus impacted on swimming pools, jacuzzis and food service in the dining rooms for the final ten days of the trip with the crew making heroic efforts to isolate...

Title: Canada in the Fall Summary: We went to experience new destinations and this was achieved very well. Most of the ports on the St Lawrence Seaway and on Newfoundland are very different from your average cruise destination. The timing was exactly correct for the autumn colours. Sailing from Liverpool was highly convenient. Unfortunately, the weather on both Atlantic crossings was mostly very poor but the ship handles it well. My wife was only rolled out of bed once! The crew...

Title: Wonderful destination Summary: The cruise was wonderful but I feel that Black Watch needs to look at their entertainment as there are too many piano’s needs to get a bit more modern like her sister ship Braemar. We went to Iceland/Greenland/ and Norway.

Title: Excellent service Summary: When arriving at the port and saw ship for the first time I was not impressed. It looked very old and small. Once on board I was very pleasantly surprised. The whole ship is clean and nicely decorated, the cabins very well presented, spacious and lots of storage space, lovely comfy beds. Staff all excellent as is the food and entertainment and service, nothing too much trouble. Really enjoyed the whole experience on board Black...

Title: excellant Summary: Wonderful 10 day cruise to Hamburg, Kiel Canal, Copenhagen, Oslo and the Norwegian fiords. Weather was fantastic, which was a real bonus. Great to stay overnight in places—a real bonus, as is sailing from Southampton. Although an old ship, it was perfect. The only minor criticism, is that meal times should have been more flexible. Otherwise, I would thouroughly recommend this trip.

Title: Scandinavia’s Greatest Cities and Palaces Summary: Superb cruise to iconic destinations living up to cruise title. Blessed with dry, sunny weather for majority of days. Excellent itinerary with good moorings at every port and choice of excursions if wanted. First class dining and service. Our ‘Terrace Balcony’ cabin afforded magnificent views when not on deck. Entertainment varied and extremely enjoyable especially the young, brilliant ‘Black Watch Dance Company’ and ‘Crew Shows’ which provided a wonderful cultural experience. Interesting range of on...

Title: A great mystery Summary: Fred Olsen’s first Mystery Cruise was really enjoyable. It is strange booking tours when you don’t know which port you will be in until you arrive there. Having been to LIsbon many times my wife and I thought that we would probably be going on a tour we had done before. How wrong we were. It was a lovely sunny day and we had an excellent tour in the beautiful mountain villages of Cascais and...

Title: Scottish Islands and Belfast Summary: The British sometimes forget we live on a most beautiful island with a huge variety of scenery, history and people. This cruise covered all of those. We visited The Orkneys, Inner and Outer Hebrides, Belfast and Shetlands. The Scottish Islands were simply stunning and the islanders were so friendly, helpful and interesting and what history they had to share. Beyond all expectations. In Belfast we were blown away by the Titanic Experience, not to be...

Title: Norway and Spitzbergen Summary: The first cabin we were given vibrated badly and was very noisy. After four nights we asked to move. We were given a quieter cabin. Black watch is now an old ship. She was very clean, warm and the crew were efficient and friendly. Departing from Newcastle was much easier than travelling to Southampton. The itinerary was the reason we travelled on Black Watch. The scenery was superb throughout the cruise. We called at Kristiansund...

Title: ISLANDS AND IRELAND Summary: First impressions were very good on embarking in dover. Efficient check in and not much hanging about. We parked our car at Relyon, we have used these before and they are extremely efficient and transfer you to and from the ship – appx 10 mins. Once on the ship we were surprised what a light and open feel it had, being an old ship we expected it to feel more closed in. Our cabin although...

Title: Black Watch Summary: We have just returned from a 9 night cruise on the Black Watch, visiting Germany. Holland and France. Food was excellent and the staff extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. Being a smaller ship meant that there was a friendly atmosphere. Plenty of lounge area’s for sitting in “people watching” and tea and coffee always available. Really enjoyed our trip and will be returning in the near future.

Title: Icebergs and Whale meat in Greenland Summary: My husband and I took our first cruise on Fred Olsen Black Watch to Greenland and Iceland in August 2010. We weren’t disappointed. The Black Watch is a lovely friendly ship with lot’s of interesting activities and guest speakers. The outdoor swimming pool was really warm. Even though we were in a cold climate it was a pleasure to take an early morning swim in the pool each morning at 7 a.m. where I met...

Title: Iceland, Faroes, Norway Summary: The efficiency of the Fred Olsen team was excellent and the courtesy, friendliness and helpfulness of the crew could not be faulted. The cabin – one of the cheaper ones – was comfortable, the food was excellent (we are vegetarians and the options were superb). Everything ran to time and therefore the basics were well and truly satisfied. The on-board entertainments and activities were many and varied and it was clear that many of our...

Title: First Class Service and Food But Horrendous Noise Summary: This was a 3 day Bank Holiday Break to celebrate my wife’s birthday sailing from Southampton to Guernsey, Bolougne Sur Mer and disembarking at Harwich. This was a late booking which we upgraded to a superior deluxe outside cabin. It was a lovely spacious cabin on Desk 5 at the aft of the ship allocated by Fred Olsen. The service from staff on board and food was first class. Our main complaints relate to excessive...

Title: Bank holiday escape Summary: Its been 8 years since I cruised on Black Watch, she is a very cosy little ship but is still looking rather tired even after part refurbishment. We chose the long weekend from Southampton for a well earned break, we were lucky with the weather. Sunday we visited Guernsey all shops were shut! Bank holiday Monday we visited Boulogne and the shops didn’t open till 2pm! Having never visited either of these ports before it...

Title: Guernsey and Boulogne Summary: We opted for this mini-cruise as the free part of Fred Olsen’s “buy-one-get-one-free” offer. This was our third cruise with Fred and the second on Black Watch. Checking in and embarkation at Southampton went like clockwork – no problems at all. The ship had been spruced up a bit since our last visit; our deck 4, outside cabin, was comfortable, clean and tidy, and everything worked as it should. Though breakfast fare was much the...
