The first settlement of the marshy islands in the lagoon was for protection from barbarian tribes that terrorized mainland farms and villages. Island living quickly led to the development of skills in handling boats, then ships. Maritime trade conducted by shrewd merchants brought great wealth, which permitted the building of palaces, churches and monuments. The city became the center of the vast Venetian empire, its name forever summoning visions of grandeur, magnificence, richness, graciousness and beauty. Although later linked to the mainland, first by a railway bridge built in 1848 and then by a motor causeway in 1930, this island city will always be considered the “Queen of the Sea.” There are no cars in Venice; all transportation is by boat or on foot along the time-worn, cobblestone streets and across some 400 bridges that span the city’s 177 canals. Enchanting Venice truly offers an atmosphere that exists nowhere else.

Nestled among the myriad islets of the Istrian coast in the Gulf of Venice, the charming harbor of Rovinj is comprised of candy-colored buildings, fringed with marinas and dominated by the fairytale spire of the Cathedral of Saint Euphemia, modeled on St. Marks’ in Venice. The old town is a treasury of historic monuments – a 13th-century Romanesque baptistry, a baroque City Hall, and an 18th-century monastery – all tucked among cobbled streets that invite exploration. Known as the “Montmartre of Istria,” this is an artists’ colony with many galleries.

A scant few miles off the Albanian coast lies the island of Corfu, one of the most richly endowed of all the Greek Isles. Praised by Homer in the Odyssey and selected by Shakespeare as the setting for “The Tempest,” the island retains evidence of cultural heritage from each of its past rulers – Byzantium, Venice, France, Russia and Great Britain. Rolling acres of olive groves, small orchards of lemon and orange trees, tall cypress, oleander, and myrtle bushes lend a lush, verdant look to the island. While the oldest part of Corfu Town has cobblestone lanes so narrow only pedestrian travel is possible, the modern sector has wide avenues. Residents boast that its “Spianada” is the largest and most beautiful square in all Greece.

Location Zakinthos, Greece
In
Out

A favorite of the Venetians during their three centuries of rule, Zakinthos today is increasingly popular with pleasure-seekers from throughout the world. Although virtually destroyed by an earthquake and fire in 1953, the town was painstakingly rebuilt stone by stone by its citizens, who remain fiercely proud of their island and its history. Explore Solomos Square and the fascinating Museum of Post-Byzantine Art with its fine collection of templos, carved, gilded icon screens. Shoppers will find no shortage of boutiques, particularly around St. Mark’s Square. Above it all stands the ancient castle, complete with fortified walls, which once provided safety to the Medieval population. The views are excellent. Special Note: October 28 is a national holiday in Greece.

Out

Lovely Parga curls around a sandy beach between two rugged outcrops. An amphitheater of candy-colored houses ascends the slope to a Venetian Castle. The hills surrounding the town are dotted with quaint churches and forested with ancient olive groves, some of the largest olive trees in Greece. Really an utterly charming place to anchor and, conditions permitting, deploy our watersports Marina.

Location Brindisi, Italy
In
Out

Set on a peninsula between two arms of the Adriatic Sea, Brindisi was an important port of the Roman Empire, and later for the East India Company. In the 2nd century BC the Appian Way was built, linking the port to Rome, and a column near the harbor marks the end of that famous route. It is here that in 71 BC, the gladiator Spartacus led thousands of rebel slaves in an unsuccessful escape. Today visitors find Romanesque churches, a 13th-century castle and, in the surrounding Apulia region, remains of ancient Messapian culture.

Founded in the 7th century, Dubrovnik rose to greatness as a merchant state, independent republic and cultural crossroads. The traffic-free Old Town has been called a Croatian Athens. This UNESCO designated World Heritage Site is a living museum of the ages with fortifications, chapels, monastic cloisters and Europe’s second-oldest synagogue crowded into its ancient walls. Relax at a sidewalk café, listen to the chimes of the 14th-century bell tower or join the promenade down the palace-lined avenue known as the Stradun.

An Adventure Awaits

With two pool escapes, there’s always the excuse to allow yourself an indulgent afternoon or two, where you can make the most of sun drenched skies as you chat with like-minded passengers. Elsewhere on board, the relaxation continues in the Spa at Seabourn, where you can treat yourself to a tension melting Thai Massage, body wrap or let your worries fade away in the blissful hydro pool.

There’s even a salon attached so if you’re feeling indulgent and want to treat yourself to an afternoon of pampering. Looking for something more active? Those who are looking to keep fit can do so in the state-of-the-art gym with its very own personal trainers. Perhaps you’re looking to learn something new? There’s always plenty of enrichment activities going on in the Grand Salon from lectures, cooking demonstrations, movies and more.

Seabourn Square

For a morning or afternoon of enrichment head for Seabourn Square. With its iconic ‘living room’ design with comfortable sofas and chairs, you can relax in here with cake and coffee in hand as you browse through the selection of books on offer. An open deck terrace is also located just aft of the Square where guests can head for a relaxing drink out on deck. The iconic “living room” style design has replaced the traditional and formal approach to a reception area and now provides a comfortable spot with a range of guest service opportunities where you can get the answers to any questions you may have.

Head For The Marina

Not only do you have an abundance of opportunities to relax and unwind on board, the signature Seabourn feature of the Marina can also be found on board. This marina is bigger and better than ever aboard Seabourn Quest with an amazing range of opportunities to enjoy. The aft of the ship folds and once deployed creates a platform from where you can enjoy swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, wind surfing, jet skis and water-skiing.

During The Evenings…

Be sure to catch a sunset from out on deck or head for the Grand Salon that will host an array of production shows that will grace the stage from cabaret to comedians and classical recitals every night for an evening full of entertainment night after night. A popular spot for pre-dinner drinks and dancing to live music, The Club offers music late into the night. For late night drinks with panoramic views or drinks al fresco head to Observation Bar or the Pool Patio.

Dining

The Restaurant is the main dining venue on board and operates an open seating policy with no reservations and no fixed sittings. This delightfully elegant setting presents a stunning array of culinary creations set amongst the most prestigiously beautiful backdrop. There is nothing quite like dining with Seabourn and the range of accolades they have to show for it continue to prove this to be true. Restaurant 2 is an alternative venue and provides a more intimate setting, perfect for a romantic candlelit dinner for two with small plate tasting sessions and theme evenings at no extra charge. Alternatively, Colonnade is a dining venue spanning indoors and outdoors and provides a lavish buffet service throughout breakfast and luncheon. Here, guests can also indulge in tableside themed dinners during the evening. For casual dining fare, dine at the Patio Grill set poolside, guests can make the most of freshly baked pizzas throughout the afternoon

Dress Code

The Seabourn dress code concept revolves around high class luxury cruising with a casual, relaxed approach to dress. Enjoy the true holiday spirit and immerse yourselves with that feeling of really getting away from it all. Elegant casual is the predominant approach adopted, passengers are invited to dress up should they wish but this is not compulsory.
